"Von der Leyen" is the name of her husband and his family. Ursula herself was born as Ursula Albrecht, part of an old rich, influential (and very, very bad) family of merchants and later politicians.
For a few generations now, they are a German/American family, so Ursula has relatives in the US too. And just like the Germans, the Ladson family in South Carolina is quite bad.

She's acting like she is leading the whole thing. And even worse, many people do not seem know/remember the truth. If you look at social media, news articles or other sources you will find people who call her EU President, leader/ head of the EU or similar things.
