Two wasps, a Dark-waisted Paper Wasp (Polistes jokahamae) and a Paper Wasp (genus Polistes) spotted at Pujiang Countryside Park, Shanghai, China on 2 Nov 2025. They were next to each other and busy gnawing at the wood for nest material.

A yellow wasp with a pattern of dark and orange stripes on the abdomen and running down the body. The waist of the wasp is mostly black with a few yellow patches.
Another wasp that superficially resembles the previous wasp. Except on this wasp, there are no black bands on the abdomen and the waist is mainly yellow.
