Before Cooking: Christmas Eve Snowy Walk
First video of 3 for Christmas-- this one is views of snowy dusk on the acreage, then frost Christmas morning and golden frosty views near sunset in the next two!
For me the focus of interest and meaning in the winter holiday season is the Winter Solstice. However, Christmas still ends up getting attention and action, since that is the primary cultural focus here. That means that's likely to mean time off from work (this year I would not have been working for Christmas anyway, as it was mid-week, but I did have to work on the Solstice), availability (and sales!) of special foods and treats, gift cards from work (to buy those treats!)-- etc etc. So I notice the Solstice, take photos, send greetings online and so on, but whether I do more will be dictated by schedules and so on. Christmas on the other hand will be when I make a special meal (Christmas Eve, if I don't work that day, since that's the proper time from my childhoold- from Mom's Latvian upbringing, maybe? Christmas Eve was more serious, Christmas Day was always more just time to open presents, relax, secondary meals and treats)..
This year I spent time in the afternoon of Christmas Eve washing the floors, then showered and went out for a bit of fresh air and excercise before cooking (vegetarian meal, as always). It was around -21C/-6F, snowing lightly, luckily no wind to speak of, so it wasn't bad.. I just had a little walkabout and views on the acreage.
