That's on the bluesky-topic of independent and decentralized. Sure... 🙄
That doesn't happen in the Fediverse.

@werawelt I understand that AT protocol can also have different servers and rules for the servers... In that sense, why wouldn't people spin up a bsky server in the same fashion?
in reply to Craig Lambie

@craiglambie42 @werawelt Anyone can. Just takes ~$30M or so to get started.

freeourfeeds.com/ (Not an endorsement. Just pointing out how ridiculous it is.)

This fucking Free Our Feeds bullshit is basically trying to do for Bluesky what Mozilla does for Google.

And guess what, there’s Mozilla’s executive director and president on as custodians alongside two guys from AI companies and the executive director of Meta partner Social Web Foundation.

I’m so bloody sick and tired of bloody Silicon Valley asshats sucking all the oxygen out of the room with their bullshit and I truly hope the folks roped into legitimising it realise this and distance themselves as quickly as possible (you know who you are).

Yeah, whatever happened to those guys. Last heard they were taking the $100K they scammed and cozying up to some blockchain nonsense.

Bluesky Free Our Feeds initiative turns out to be a blockchain play.

Remember a couple months ago when #FreeOurFeeds showed up asking for $30M to save Bluesky from billionaires by making a second 'relay'.

Well, now the plan is to hook the #Bluesky 'firehose' up to some kind of blockchain thing and declare it 'distributed' and safe from billionaires.

If you read this techno mumbo jumbo release and it makes no sense to you, it is not you. It literally makes no sense.

@kaliagainstallodds They are mostly leftist people and mostly young generation, so we need them to be heard on a free platform.

Understand your point, but disagree. People have been led to believe that #Bluesky is a safe because the company has marketed that it is "decentralized." Most folks don't really understand this stuff, but are convinced because it is repeated in the media and their associates are doing the same thing.

This is a teachable moment. Hopefully people will see the vulnerability and the inherently more defensible nature of the Fediverse and make decisions accordingly.

Not sure it needs to be that complicated. Suspect that there are plenty of Mastodon insrance admins who would not block users in response to requests by the Turkish government.
