Looking up a damp gravel road at dusk, with a few patches of snow in sheltered/shady spots outside the tire tracks at the road edge.The roadside ditch is mostly brown mowed grass etc, with faint hints of green. After that is wire/post fencing on both sides.Close by at the right and all along on the left are trees- on the right small spruce in front of bare poplars. On the left low willows backed by spruce and poplar, and farther on willows with youngish tamarack (larch) larger tamarack farther back and mature spruce and poplar farther still. On the right, the initial patch of trees gives way to a wetland pasture recently almost entirely cleared of woody growth with a line of low willows, small to medium tamaracks and spruce that follow a drainage ditch, and across a second cleared pasture mature mixed woods.The sky is a warm grey and the trees are faintly coated with remnant snow and perhaps a little frost, and there's a slight fog in the air.
The tip of a branch dangles into view with crumpled brown leaves looking dark against the light background, The upper parts of the leaves are highlighted, and large drops of meltwater hang from the lowest tips.The background is sunset light coming through trees and brush farther back, blurred and softened by the lens into smooth pale almost fleshy masses of coral with near-white centres and dark dividing shadows. A little higher, above the distant sunset line, the light fades to grey, with the dark shadow of a branch or trunk framing the left side.
Looking up through dangling spruce branches to left and some thin branches of a non-native willow with some clinging dead leaves, nearly completely silhouetted. We look toward a few dark spruce and bare poplar a little distance away, all forming elaborate tracery against the slightly darkening blue sky with a generous scattering of small bits of light fluffy faintly coral clouds.

Snow was right on time for the #CrossQuarterDay between Autumn Equinox and Winter Solstice- marking the #TimeOfIce -beginning of the #winter season in the traditional #Latvian calendar. The days since have been mild, but shadows long, shade and breezes chilly, temperature dropping rapidly as soon as the sun is below the trees or behind clouds so the winter season is definitely at hand, even if it is yet to get deeply cold (we've had nights probably had -10/-12C 14-10F)
