Yeah, I do 2-3 levels of rsync backups because my data is mostly static and because BY FAR my most likely data loss scenario is "Oops! I accidentally deleted stuff."

With RAID, that "oops" gets replicated instantly. With occasional rsync, my backups likely have my data still.

I could still benefit from RAID to maintain better uptime, but my situation is such that a bit of downtime when swapping over to my backup server is not a big deal.

@Isaac Ji Kuo too true! I think the message is, RAID on its own is not a great idea at all.
