I mostly get advice from the fediverse when I don't ask for it and don't need it.

I want a box that plugs in to a TV and plays the gameboy game I made.

I want it to do nothing else, and I want it to be as cheap as possible.

My original plan was to use an ESP32 with composite output and a USB gamepad.

There are several projects that implement a gameboy color emulator on the ESP32, there are several projects that add Composite Video output to the 32.

For example ESP 8-bit, which ads NES emulation (among others) with composite video and gamepad support. But no gameboy emulation.

There are no projects that implement a Gameboy Color emulator alongside composite video out that I've been able to find.

Do you know of a way to accomplish the above with an ESP32?

Do you know of another microcontroller that I could accomplish this goal with for less than $8/unit, that I can get in the US within the next weeks, in quantities of 10+ ?

Can you think of another way to accomplish this project for under $15 total?

Alternately, are there any projects similar in scope and price to the original odroid-Go currently available in quantities of 10+ in timescales of less than 3 weeks?

If I could do it as an all in one unit with battery and screen, I'd be willing to spend slightly more than on a home console (but it still has to be cheap enough for me to justify re-selling at a show.)

I guess I could go with one of the cheaper #gamedad boxes?

Cheapest gamedad I'm seeing runs about $50, and while it would work... That's more than I want to spend on a single unit.

I guess I could also go look at the (subsidized) androidTV/GoogleTV boxes (they tend to run about twenty bucks, to which I'd need to add a game controller for at least an additional 10) and see if there are any which are broadly available and easy to jailbreak.

I keep sliding backwards in to this idea of a Community Entertainment Center.

A box that plays independent video games and let's you watch independent television networks (like #NewEllijayTellevision or @rstv ) and maybe some video on demand stuff.
