Do Europeans really want to make a difference in our shit show of a country? Then sanction any and everyone with an R next to their political affilation. Also, the blue dogs too, just to be safe.
Sanctions are so effective because they prevent a crime lord from fulfilling the first rule of being a crime lord: pay your gang members. It doesn't matter if it makes things escalate wildlyβat some point very soon, the gang members are going to revolt.

Sanction US and US politicians.
Boycott all US events.
Ban all US imports.
Revoke passports of US politicians.
Expel all US diplomats.
The current regime needs to be isolated and held to the fire for their actions.
Of course this will never happen but it's nice to wish.
