⚠️ Alert on #Youtube's bombardment by #AI surrogate #influencers. Likely 1,000's of #misinformation channels run by who knows what malign actors.

For instance your popular #geopolitical analist cloned by #LLM #deepfake, with nothing that indicates this, or sometimes with an obfuscated disclaimer ("we're fans of").

Some vids are REALLY hard to discern from the real deal, esp. if you do not know the speaker upfront. Only a slight #UncannyValley tells.

Some channels have millions of subscribers.

Here is one such channel. You can complete the deliberately broken link below.

This "America's Future" channel #AI surrogate of #RickWilson has 1.5 million subscribers, and the vid raked in 164k views in 8 hours.

In this channel there's a Disclaimer text, which is exactly the same as on a bunch of other such #deepfakes I encountered. Perhaps the people behind this copy these disclaimers from each other, or we see a larger-scale operation.

these scammers still haven't learned from Chinese spyware: less is more.

Video/4h is unrealistic for a human, nor is flooding the network realistic for non-spyware internet traffic

@lax yes, I wouldn't be surprised if one smart script or app could manage all this in automated fashion "Create 1,000 channels with this and that opinion, who reinforce each other".

y'know the Minecraft parkour reddit-reading videos? They're actually all made by the same, FOSS software

I was thinking of this image from the #SouthPark #Warcraft episodes, where they were trolled by a veteran game nerd. This single person might be the paid operator of an entire #troll farm.
