Sometimes you see a post so wilfully ignorant and uninformed that your blood starts to boil as you're typing out a response.
I did not write a response, it would be wasted, so I'm passive aggressively dunking on them here, instead.
This person quite obviously does not understand:
- content delivery networks
- h.264 vs h.265 encoding
- the energy requirements of launching and maintaining a satellite
( I just looked at the posters bio, and they're apparently an ex-electronics engineer!)

in reply to Gary Parker • • •The logic is a bit perplexing. I don't see how something that transmits video from orbit to be distributed over fibre/point-to-point links is "500,000 times worse" than something that transmits video down from orbit, transmits it back up to orbit, and then broadcasts it back down again to multiple receivers; or "10,000 more wasteful" than dedicating airwave bandwidth to this.
Plus: YouTube has been streaming this for most of 2025. (Just checked: 223 people watching the YouTube live stream right now.) So it's a mystery why it's only suddenly stupid when #ITVX starts to carry the stream.
