You have no idea how unhappy it makes me to see that little shit's face on here.
in reply to Aral Balkan

This is spoiler!
My mods did their best to prevent this “me in the zoo cringe moment”!
in reply to Aral Balkan

ha, yea, nailed it … wish I’d thought of putting it that way.
in reply to Aral Balkan

Block him and he's gone. Don't make a big fuss out of it. You still can make your fediverse experience the way you want it to be.

@sharan
It's not about avoiding people you don't like.

It's about trying to stop things like this happening:

theguardian.com/technology/202…

This kind of stuff cannot be blocked.

@FediThing Well, we can't control that.

ActivityPub is a public spec, we can't control who implements this, as that would go against the whole purpose of this decentralized/federated protocol.

The best solution is to build services and tools to give users more control over who they federate with, and devs to facilitate this.

Also, as a fedidev, I feel an obligation to my users (who want to federate with threads) so I have to put my ego aside and work on amicable solutions

It's not ez

Tim Chambers - VOTED reshared this.

@thomkennon

you may find this bot useful for your personal blocklist.

botsin.space/@antimeta/1121373…

And as the instance admins of mastodon social are big fans of federating with Meta, why not migrate to a server who’s signed the #fedipact ?

in reply to thomkennon

@thomkennon
@aral

For everyone ready to migrate, here’s a list to check which instances federate with Meta and which ones don’t (yet).

fedipact.veganism.social/?v2

But it could be good to ask your admins first to let them know people want them to join the #fedipact (just a thought)

in reply to hömma

@kommaKucken @thomkennon
hear-me.social is showing as blocking Threads.net. This is not true. We are limiting them. There are no plans to block them.

We never had them blocked and we never signed any fedipact agreement.

Can you tell me who provided you with this incorrect information?

Thanks

@FediThing Yeah that is understandable, but is tricky when it comes to Meta compared to Gab.

I'm not trying to stand up for Meta, I'm just trying to convey the massive user base and open source contributions that Meta has made (Mastodon uses React which they created) that does warrant some unique consideration.

My mom who isn't on social media, doesn't understand why pf.soc blocks threads.net by default, and that says a lot.

This is a complex issue, and each dev has their own opinion

😅

in reply to Aral Balkan

so far I haven't seen any Threads post, hopefully that means my server blocked them
in reply to Aral Balkan

I've joined the fediverse to have this. This should be an open platform, even with bad actors. This doesnt mean illegal activities.
in reply to dansup

@dansup Kudos for that 👍

Give admins|moderators the tools and let them decide is IMHO the best possible approach.

in reply to Aral Balkan

threads has been blocked on my server since they were first announced.
in reply to Aral Balkan

saddest day of the fediverse. Even if you block, it will be the beginning of the end. He will destroy everything. Again.
So obvious, yet so many people blind to see…

Pixelfed an alternative for IG? Mastodon for X? What fucking ridiculous joke!

🤮

in reply to Aral Balkan

there are already a ton of posts in the fedi verse, what is he talking about
in reply to dansup

@dansup @FediThing
Ok, but Nazis also made Volkswagen and Porshe. We can interact just fine with the car companies without working with Nazis.

You just paid that debt by giving them credit for the tool they built, goodness knows they've most likely used a ton of FOSS work in their own products just like most tech companies.

We don't owe them anything, they've not even come close to repaying their debt by sharing a tiny fraction of the code they've written

in reply to Aral Balkan

He’s “discovered” Mastodon, and made the first “official” post.
Prepare for exploitation.

and last if the mastadonians get their acts together.

AT least he didn't rebrand it as the threadsiverse....

in reply to Aral Balkan

The saddest thing is that accounts with high number of followers will welcome this as it will expand their reach on a platform that is much 'popular'. Too bad for them I've blocked the Threads domain.
in reply to Aral Balkan

remember when these assholes were trying to 'sell' their firsts posts on twitter?

these people think they shit gold, and people buy it.

in reply to Aral Balkan

Yeah, I mean, it's not like people have been posting on the Fediverse for years already. Also, the need to do a "first!" ... 🙄
in reply to Aral Balkan

Edit: I'd fix my typo, but this is funnier.

(Specific reference for anyone from Belgium reading this (it's from an older Belgian TV show))
"Weg sfeer" was something that was said in that show, basically translating to 'vibe is gone'
in reply to Aral Balkan

I dunno what he's on about. I've been posting here for more than a year, and I wasn't the first one, either.
in reply to Aral Balkan

You might want to reconsider the phraseology of this post as it has roots in a phrase that "originated as an expression of resignation and disapproval of racial minorities moving into previously all-white neighborhoods." That said I am also not enthused by the Facebook magnate using this service. Who knows maybe he will be a positive force? Possible??
in reply to Aral Balkan

I'm glad our server decided long time ago en masse to block that capitalist shithole.
in reply to Aral Balkan

I just went to his profile to block him and… how the fuck does he already have 4M followers?
in reply to Aral Balkan

Why does the Zucks face and that message just render like that in my brain?! Strange.
in reply to Aral Balkan

The good news is posting to/from Threads will allow us to all see it, BUT also bypasses the political opt in garbage they implemented for those who follow politics.
in reply to Aral Balkan

I, for one, welcome our Facebook underlings.

I just want to know who got paid so they can get defederated as well.

Zuck, can't you keep your greedy little lizard hands off just one thing and let us have it?

in reply to Aral Balkan

Bit sad when you need a screenshot and someone else's fediverse account for your threads post to get seen. 😜🤣
in reply to Geri ™️

@Geri Well, last I checked Facebook wasn’t the product of anarchism or socialism.
