So on my Inspiron 7620 laptop the battery capacity dropped to 93% only after half a year of use. Is this normal? To me it sounds quite extreme to have a 15% capacity loss a year.... And I did not even use my laptop like most people do. Most of the time my laptop is plugged in.
@Roma what you think, is this normal?

In general, what I've noticed is that these numbers aren't that accurate and heavily depend on the manufaturer implementation (battery controller) and way how the capacity calculated. For example, on manjaro forums some people assumed that it's some sort of protection mechanism, when you keep your laptop plugged in too often:

Some people suggest, it might be also the heat and room temperatures affect the capacity, so it's a vast amount of probabilities here. I have my phone battery capacity meter stuck at 83% for more than a year and it still work pretty much the same as new. I think, it's really hard programmatically to prescisely calculate such a thing, so I would not rely on these numbers in general.

If you still worry about the battery, I'd suggest you to keep looking if there would be the sudden drops in real charge percentage, while you're on the battery. Especially, at low charge around 20-10% or sudden laptop shutdowns because of the discharges, even though it was enough charge. This is usually a common indicator for all Li-Ion type batteries when they have to be replaced soon.

in reply to Roma • •Thanks a lot for the detailed info! I did notice a slight decrease in battery time while using the laptop. Now is like 5 or so hours, before maybe it was a bit more. But it is true my laptop is kinda warm all the time, at times very hot. Does not help that now is fucking hot in here.....
I guess I will have to replace the battery in a few years time anyway.
Thanks a lot again, and useful link to the manjaro forums!

in reply to Tio • •From what I understood, working temperatures higher than 35C may affect the capacity directly, slowly decreasing it or it just discharges quicker than usual, even after full charge (absolute limit of the temperature is 60C, though it is totally not recommended). However, I hope, yeah, your battery shouldn't require a service that soon.
