Not exaclty like money, because I can at least use money to exchange my work for goods and services.

You can do that with other currencies too . Work = making videos, webdesign, whatever. Then you get paid in some other cryptocurrency. Then you buy stuff with it. And if is not readily available today, it will be 'tomorrow'. Money or cryptocurrencies are all currencies. They represent a trade (do this, to get that).
