There are companies that provide Managed Hosting, where you pay a monthly fee and they do all the technical stuff including hosting, installation and updates.

You own and run the server, they do the tech stuff behind the scenes.

All the ones I know of are based on Europe, sorry. But I think you can still use them if you're outside Europe?

Yeah there's no technical reason for the managed host needing to be in the same country as the owner. Same for any kind of hosting service.

Since you have to use PayPal I think you can use it outside Europe but the pricing will be different because of currency difference. They are using Pounds. I would google x pounds to US dollars for price.

Just one tiny correction, it's euros rather than pounds on these sites (the currency symbols are pretty similar).

I started to provide such managed instances too https://webape.site/ - mastodon, peertube, friendica, matrix, nextcloud. For sure, the idea is to learn to host yourself, but in case anyone is interested....

Just to make clear, masto.host has been around for years, as has Spacebear, so I'm fairly confident they wouldn't just disappear.

However it's a good point, hopefully there will be more providers appearing in the future.

Also https://ossrox.org offers Mastodon instances on request. Hosted on German servers.

They have experience through their privately offered instance (social.sp-codes.de), which runs great since the beginning and is always up to date.
