TBH, I think #KolibriOS is really cool, abeit unlike @OS1337 it's not #Linux based (but still cool tho!)...

Granted, @OS1337 has a different target mission, which is to be a #KISS-principled, easy to build, extent and adapt basis for #Firmware and #Embedded Systems...

Or to power some #security-focussed #EmbeddedSystems where having #ReproduceableBuilds is part of the #transparency culture I aim for.

OFC nothing prevents one from using @OS1337 's basic #toybox + #musl / #Linux basis to generate a #smol and efficient #Linux #Desktop or general-purpose Server distro.

in reply to Kevin Karhan :verified:

And my motivation for @OS1337 is the same as @landley has for #toybox - except I'm too stupid/lazy to do #LinuxFromScratch and want to do something simpler, faster, more auditable and reproduceable in a feasible amount of time.
in reply to Kevin Karhan :verified:

Tho as for @OS1337 I openly disregarded @landley 's warning of accidentially creating a distro because I do want that to some degree...
in reply to Kevin Karhan :verified:

At the very least I want @OS1337 to support #dropbear as #SSH #client so one can use it as a amnesiaic, anti-forensics #RAMdisk - only SSH-#Terminal to connect to other machines.

Like a reinterpretation of classic terminals like the #VT520 series from DEC...

in reply to Kevin Karhan :verified:

Because Iinstead of paying hundreds of $ for vintage hardware of limited use, why not #upcycle and #convert existing #COTS hardware like #ThinClients and turn them into something #secure that can still be used to some degree, even when they are too slow to run any decent #Desktop #Linux like @tails_live / @tails / #Tails or #BunsenLabs or whatever...
in reply to Kevin Karhan :verified:

So yes, my mission goals for @OS1337 hasn't changed in that I want it to be a #useable #SSH #terminal on a #1440kB #FDD image and having the option to expand from there on...

  • A #Ramdisk-only #Linux that allows one to easily connect to stuff and mount one's /home/ directory is a way to go - espechally when said drive is a fully-encrypted #Network-based #BlockStorage...
in reply to Kevin Karhan :verified:

Because I think that @OS1337 can deliver the advantages of dumb terminals with the security of a modern, minimalist #Linux distro and really fill a lot of use-cases...
