You are not immune to propaganda but neither am I, I am only pointing this out so we can keep being vigilant about what we consume and not hand-wave away criticism. I think this is ultimately a group effort and we should be less dismissive & more didactic about this

Kinda not false but I think there's nothing wrong with "hand waving away". It's the more explicit version of what the hands are doing in this particular version of waving. Hands can wave to indicate many things. So I think "hand waving away" is fine and legit, and "hand waving" is the more compressed version.

No problem... I've found folks whose first language is US English often don’t use it as, like, y'know good like non-native speakers 🙂

The first time I heard "hand waving" I wasn't aware of the phrase, so it wasn't until I had heard it again in another context where I knew what kind of waving the hands were doing. So I love "hand waving away" personally. Clear and vivid.
