The #Trump admin is planning to dramatically ramp up its transfer of undocumented #immigrants to #GuantanamoBay. Some 9,000 people are being screened, including hundreds from #Europe….
That would be an exponential increase from the ~500 immigrants who have been held for short periods at the base since Feb & a major step toward realizing a plan Trump announced in Jan to use #Gitmo to hold as many as 30k immigrants.

The plans have come together only in the last few days & could still change, documents say. But #DHS may not notify the countries of the individuals affected in advance…

That element of the plan has alarmed some US diplomats, who note that most #European countries are American #allies that are cooperative in taking back deportees & that there’s no need to send the people to #Guantanamo.
