What I’d love to see: An in-depth wide-ranging review of the various “workspace” tools - docs, sheets, calendars - that are options for people who want to de-Google themselves. I know about Proton, Fastmail, etc, but not from people who've daily-driven more than one of them.

That'd be an interesting survey. (I have NextCloud set up and rather like it but I have no idea how it stacks up to the other options. Or even what some of those options even are, tbh)

I have test driven Nextcloud + Collabora, Nextcloud + OpenOffice and Mailbox Drive. They are acceptable, but so far not so convincing or usable as to having gotten me switched. Still end up back in Google workspace. Nextcloud options are not integrated enough and Mailbox just has not felt right - though I use it for email and calendar.

WebDAV Calendar (With Thunderbird or Betterbird email client) + @libreoffice . Top notch productivity suite. Will do anything your office needs. Don't have an indepth review right now, but I *have* daily driven this combo for 2 decades and it has never failed me.

there is no* serious Google Docs competitor. Everybody is trying to clone MS Word and every single one of them sucks.

I’ve not yet checked on Sheets, but I presume that’s a similar story.

*Apple’s work suite is fine, but I want web based and ideally FOSS.
