a place where people can share valuable knowledge and become as a **reference** that people can follow and learn. Be able to interact to people can be a plus, but I think the value will be enhanced by the people we can attract, and they can feel comfortable in sharing knowledge without harassment and technological barriers.
I asked my partner what kept her on Twitter/x for so long, and she said it was mostly informative accounts on topics of her interest. Maybe you remember, Ben, it was one of the goals of the Stoa project that started in 2006, using Elgg, at the University of São Paulo. The main challenges we had within our small team: moderation (I think it can be a huge challenge for several instances), the technological barrier on how to use the platform, and the financial sustainability of the project — it was a project of one of the richest universities in Brazil, but you still need to convince someone to pay the bills.
In terms of the culture, less racist, with people better at picking their fights, knowing when it's better to move on.
On a technical side of things, less isolating, more connected. Right now, because of various, mostly technical reasons, it's usually better to stick to larger servers. And interoperability is...well it mostly works, but requires a lot more effort than you'd expect.
