It’s been a long time coming but Apple’s abusive grip on how developers monetize their apps is coming to an end. After the ruling this week, Spotify & Patreon have announced they will bypass the App Store and Apple’s 30% fee for purchases.

More will follow. Apple’s fastest growing business, rent seeking, just took a major hit.

Of course, Spotify and Patreon do similar things to their content creators. I doubt they will stop gouging the content creators now that Apple has stopped gouging *them*.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall when Tim Cook is negotiating Alex Roman's hush-money payout to not implicate him, take the fall for perjury and go to jail instead.

I deleted the Patreon app from my phone back when Apple started this, because I didn't want to accidentally touch a button that would deeply cut into the funding going to the creators I sponsor.

I can probably continue to live without it.
