Also consider: Elon Musk (and maybe the House of Saud?) now has access to the direct messages of every politician on the planet.

(And these aren’t necessarily the most technically-savvy or infosec-aware people we’re talking about here…)

Tucrees que los politicos se mandan muchos mensajes directos en twitter y si se los mandan son importantes? Serian muy tontos no'
in reply to Toni :mastodon:

No, lo digo porque es en Whatsapp donde los políticos coordinan cosas, o en su defecto en Telegram. En cuanto a seguridad los mensajes de WP están "cifrados de extremo a extremo", pero como todo, nada es 100% seguro

and to very exact locations every single tweet and DM was sent from, with very exact timestamps.

Kompromat/bribery was my first thought upon reading news of the upcoming takeover. Regular folks should be concerned as well.
in reply to Aral Balkan

terrifying that this is a very likely scenario at this point… it seems there is absolutely no moral compass involved anymore when it comes to billionaires and generating more money (or more billionaire-favorable economic environments). although i do doubt that high-ranking politicians have any meaningful / exploitable communications in their twitter dms
in reply to jucka

You have a very high opinion of high-ranking politicians ;P

(Just look at Liz Truss and her phone, for the latest example of how clueless they are when it comes to infosec/tech.)

in reply to Aral Balkan

I agree, there were also instances with Angela Merkel where phones weren’t hardened properly (or securely used) and probably loads more no one even heard of. Still, as far as I know, politicians like the PM of Britain or BK of Germany normally only use heavily moderated social media accounts and I can’t imagine there is actual political discourse going on in their dms. Another story for accounts they used before getting into power…

Just where you want it, in the hands of one of the more insecure people in recent history.

and location data. It is called kompromat. J. Edgar Hoover would have creamed his pants if he had this much.
in reply to Aral Balkan

sure but I can't imagine that any of them actually use twitter DMs for anything
in reply to pacanukeha❎

Oh, you’d be surprised. (Sadly, my own experience has been that they’re no more aware of the security issues than a random person on the street.)
in reply to Aral Balkan

ugh - I’m glad I left. (Still struggling to make this platform work though)

What else do you suggest, may I ask?

Crazy. Never dealt with that.
in reply to Aral Balkan

they are their imperialist friends so what is there to worry?
in reply to Aral Balkan

so we can assume everyone that’s been on the bluebird are compromised one way or the other right?
in reply to Aral Balkan

I have serious doubts whether they're using DMs for anything worth spying on.
in reply to Aral Balkan

desde que tenemos acceso a la red cada persona sabe que toda su información es observada, y no solo por una persona, sino por muchísimas. Y bueno pues, las personas son solo eso, personas, ni buenas ni malas. 🤷🏻

And Ocasio-Cortez seemed to think he had interfered with her Twitter account - which would be just the sort of puerile thing one expects of him
in reply to Hippocampe

Yep. In this particular instance, it would appear that it might have been a technical glitch as some other verified folks reported seeing the same thing but yes, exactly the sort of thing you’d expect from him.

And no one external to Twitter has a way of knowing exactly what they’re doing as there’s zero transparency. The only thing we know is that it’s Elon’s toy now and he has access to whatever he wants on it.

More folks than you’d think, sadly.
in reply to billy joe bowers - Harris2024

Everything from street address to purchase details. Customer support systems are literally integrated into Twitter APIs for that very purpose.
in reply to Aral Balkan

Guliani, for one, would send all passwords of all his clients
in reply to Aral Balkan

Without wanted to support Elon, but if any politician was exchange important information through any commercial social media, then I hope Elon would expose that politician.

My argument here is that who is the ownership is just one dimension of the equation, the protocol (like the constitution of the platform) is one other dimension. Personally, I am here not for the "ownership", I am here for the future-proofed protocol. Elon is just one another extremely rich guy with expensive toys.

Nice timing. I was just about to spin up site.js. I have questions.
in reply to Shoq

Ah, what for? Please feel free to ask away but also keep an eye on CodeBerg.org/kitten/app as that’s where all the new work is. Site.js is functional and it runs all our own sites but it’s an evolutionary dead-end.

(I am using a lot of the constituent parts in Kitten.)
