I've started looking into #Friendica a bit. Would love to hear some other opinions about it. Do any of my friends on here use it?

I like the idea of having #rss feeds alongside #ActivityPub. I might like a mashup of my social and my feedreader.

Oh it is really amazing. We have an instance at social.trom.tf and a page showcasing its features at trom.tf/social. I used it daily. I kinda replaced my own website/blog because I can create big posts and format the text and such. I have also replaced my RSS reader since I can add any RSS link and follow. We created customized themes for our instance if you are interested so it looks more modern. But overall Friendica is very underrated. It is clean, fast, powerful, and that RSS integration is simply amazing. I used to visit Reddit from time to time. No more. I get my Reddit doze on Friendica.

excellent. I looked at it a while back when I fist started fiddling with fediverse stuff, and the aesthetic was really off-putting, but it seems there is now a more modern theme in general. I've currently signed up for a different instance and am playing. I'm encouraged to see yours though. I may have to look at it more.

Right now I'm wondering about two things primarily. (1) Control over content. How easily can I filter out what I connect to. I'd love to be able to block certain instances or accounts, and I don't know if that control is there. (2) How hard is this thing to self-host if I wanted to spin up my own instance. I'm not even close to a developer, but I've found that #Pleroma easy enough to manage (with the help of an online hosting service). #Friendica seems much more resource heavy.

  • You can easily block or ignore users. It is super easy to do so and to unblock or unignore them. You can also collapse content based on language or keywords. So that's nice. You can't block instances as far as I know...that's be a great addition.
  • We have installed Friendica via @YunoHost - the hardest part is installing yunohost itself, and even that is easy. Then you have a control panel and there you can click install for friendica. That's kinda how it is. Same is for pleroma or mastodon and the like. Yunohost is amazing. Learn how to use it and then the rest are "click and install".

ah, yunohost is exactly what I was considering if I chose to do my own install. That's really helpful info.

I may have to look into it more.
