I don't get how someone can have so much. I don't know a billionaire that didn't exploiting people and/or the environment.
We can either allow billionaires to pollute the planet and destroy the biosphere, or we can have a planet with a healthy biosphere and no billionaires. But we can't have both.
I favor a 100% tax at $1,000,000,001+, that way they can still claim they are a billionaire.

I setup my own #calckey server up. It is now up and running! (Still teasing out the last few wrinkles.) Using Hetzner, Docker, and (But Muy Securitay!) Cloudflare Tunnel.

OK, I am on qoto.org, if I feel there is too much spam or something I don't like from a user / instance (domain) I can manually block that instance from my own account? One of the strengths of the fedivers is I can do JUST THAT. I can block / mute individual accounts for a set period.

@gilesgoat the possibility of producers trying to replace writers with AI is one of the key issues of the strike.
I know sadly a few "big places" where this is already happened. Can't make names/precisely for what but is definitely happening. Some people seems to think that "ChapGTP and the like" can replace SO MANY THINGS and are "extremely happy" to do so it seems.
@gilesgoat they seem unaware of how deeply not human the AI LLMs like ChatGPT are. They are compelling tools, and so is a hammer. Not really people replacers even if folks want them to be.
At the moment, people work, get paid and use salaries to pay for goods and services, which pays for other people to run / provide those goods and services.
Once you replace people with AI, don't you then remove the money from the people who will go on to buy those goods / services. The result is people won't have the captial to spend, the companies now running AI will lose money as no one is buying their products.
What happens then, profits down, share down, dividends down and the CEOs who make these decisions will be thrown off boards for damaging profits.

I'd like to thank @supakaity@blahaj.zone for adding an edit feature to #Calckey. Within a day that I've been able to use this, it's been such a huge quality of life improvement for me. I no longer have to stress out because I misspelled something or forgot a word in a sentence.

I hope the editing functionality improves everyone who uses our software's experience on the fediverse.
I know a lot of people cited lack of editing as one of the detractors from being able to move across, so hopefully they now have additional choices.
That's what the fediverse should be: a bunch of small to middle sized instances and largest choice driving innovation and growth.
Cramming as many people onto a stagnated platform as you can, milking them for donations and then not providing the required amount of moderation, protection and new functionality is not the proper way forward, in my opinion.
So if there's anyone out there who's been on a mega instance and waiting to move, now might be the time. With editing functionality, improvements to moderation and tooling, and a lot of quality of life improvements in the pipeline, why not jump to a new instance where your needs, safety and visibility is important?

I recently read about a new British satirical comedy show, where the actors impersonate other public figures (a fairly standard format) but unlike the old school impressionists they are just using the actors as literal "meatsacks" for the body movements and replacing their faces with AI generated ones (like how many computer games are already made), which seems particularly dystopian (I never thought I'd end up feeling nostalgic for Mike Yarwood!)

Most of the time this results in worse user experience, because more interactions/scrolling is forced onto users by introducing a worse UI. By accident, you hit that too.
Queue shows 2.6 items unless scrolled sideways. 2.6 is too much for just returning >>

Next is "what's new", 2 items shown, which most of the times is way less than items available (new downloads should be automated any ways). If one side scrolls on "what's new" like on Queue, Download items become dismissed.
On "Get surprised" it looks like the "Queue" block, but is not scrollable at all, but "classics" is. >>

Also "classics" is just the subscribed podcasts without any order and name (it's just a picture and some podcasts don't include any or any meaningful picture at all).

The motivation was a) results from user tests indicating it was confusing not to have a central start screen & b) interest of active contributors to navigate the app without any menu. We have been struggling with this also. The problem: when you press play on an item it would disappear from that row, because it's already in the mini-player. This can lead to unexpected behaviour with episodes dis-/reappearing. See also enhancement request and discussion here: https://github.com/AntennaPod/AntennaPod/issues/6445 (feel free to suggest other solutions).

Including the full list would go against the purpose of the Home screen (providing an overview & quick entry points to several screens). Including many very long lists would make the Home screen hard to use. It's a balance we have to strike. Concrete suggestions for tweaking the balance welcome!

That can happen indeed. The different patterns stem from their 'parent' screens: inbox has swipe actions that we want to maintain. In other blocks we wanted to give more visual visibility to the episode covers. We trust it's a matter of getting used to.

There is an order actually, based on hours of listening. While some podcasts might not include a meaningful image, that really is a minority. In a large majority of cases displaying a title would be superfluous.

In that case you can, as with many other things in AntennaPod, adjust it to your liking and turn off the Home screen. Simply long-press the side-menu and disable the Home screen. Via the settings you can also change your 'Default page'.

I'm not sure if I like the new home screen but at least I can also use the app almost exactly as I did before. And I value the effort 👍
However, sadly, with the 3.0 release AntennaPod has become very slow at startup for me. It takes roughly 5 seconds to load. I use a Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact (not a slow one)

I have been struggling with the world of podcast apps for 20 years and am absolutely blown away by how good #Antennapod is. Every feature I always wanted captured in one app. #podcasts have become the curated radio stream and thanks to private RSS and Patreon you can support the ones you want.

it could be a few different things. What we've added/adding for Mastodon is a "Share to Mastodon" button ( see an example at https://kraft.blog/2023/02/joining-the-student-advisory-board/ ) and we're adding support for our auto-post function where when you publish a blog post, an excerpt, some media, and a link is published on your socials.
For Twitter, we also had things like tweetswarming where we'd suck in a thread and import it into a new post for those who did huge Twitter threads and realized it should be on their site. Also, had the reverse. Write a post and have it auto-posted as a Twitter thread with sensible breakpoints.
Those latter two were really because of the char count limits of Twitter which I don't think would apply to the Fediverse platforms I've checked out so far.
For Twitter, we also had things like tweetswarming where we'd suck in a thread and import it into a new post for those who did huge Twitter threads and realized it should be on their site. Also, had the reverse. Write a post and have it auto-posted as a Twitter thread with sensible breakpoints.

Have you considered, instead of sharing the blog post to mastodon, making the entire blog subscrible as part of the fediverse?
Like a "Follow" and a "reblog" buttons instead of a "share" button.

He's working now on integrating it for all WordPress.com sites and making it a better experience.
Right now, it isn't feature-complete enough for me, personally, to say it's ready for folks who aren't early adopters and okay with rough edges.
The sharing and auto-posting is a bit easier to do since there is the existing model of doing it on legacy social media platforms.
On the Tumblr side of the company, same thing. Want to get it to be ActivityPub-compliant. I don't work over there but I imagine that's a pretty big effort and I don't know where it stands off hand.

heh, yeah. Mastodon, at least, had a common share intent URL (e.g. instance.tld/share?title=blah or whatever it was) so we went with Mastodon instead of generic. If all Fediverse had the same URL scheme for share intent, it would have been a no brainer for a generalized button!
