And that's why we need to support LiFePo4 batteries :ablobcatattention:

Problem is that China basically holds a monopoly over their manufacture, so we need to not support those human rights issues either.
The industry is starting to switch away from cobalt batteries. Ford has made their plan public, at least. LFP batteries work just as well, but are larger.

The trailer for the new TROM II documentary is out! πŸ˜ƒ

:ablobcatrainbow: :ablobcatrainbow: :ablobcatrainbow: :ablobcatrainbow:

You can watch it on #Peertube here - https://videos.trom.tf/w/uzsWV9z42KKG61HduWrryW

Its made by a single person @tio entirely using #FOSS programs like @kdenlive, @inkscape and @krita.

The documentary also features interviews with some curious minds like @aaron, @bigworldsmallsasha, @sober_pirate, @georgi, and @tio himself.

I've explained more about it here - https://social.trom.tf/display/dbc8dc44-1264-45eb-d223-3ef585340224
The official poster of the new TROM documentary. At the centre there's a photo of the earth taken from space, on top of it there's the big TROM logo as the title followed by the tagline of the documentary reading "A message to the aliens". There are dotted lines falling from the tagline to the earth below, fading away like a signal.

This is the last thing you see when the TROM II documentary ends! 😍

If a single person can make a 5 hour documentary (split into 4 parts) using only #FreeSoftware then that goes to show you how much the #FOSS community has grown over the years. @kdenlive @inkscape @krita Be proud of what your software is capable of today! πŸ˜ƒ
A screenshot of the end of the documentary where the credits are shown. White text at the center of the screen reads "This documentary was created with trade-free software." And three lines below it:

Video editor: Kdenlive
Image editor: Inkscape, Krita
Operating system: Tromjaro linux

@Tio @georgi @Sasha @PeerTube @Dima @Aaron @Kdenlive

Wow that screenshot is lit ! πŸ”₯ Imma share that on my mastodon account 😁

> I hope you won't get too border by the documentary.

Don't worry I won't get bored by it, lol πŸ˜„ I'm actually really curious about it, curious to see all of you and hear your interviews & personal stories, curious to see how you weave these interviews together with facts and knowledge about our world to create an engaging story, curious to see how you did the music, editing, and other audiovisual effects using FOSS softwares like kdenlive, inkscape, krita, etc. Unlike most other documentaries this one was made by the work of one single person, so I'll keep that in mind while watching, to really appreciate your effort πŸ˜€
I'm sure @Rokosun will looove it πŸ˜€

Yeah I've been screaming about this inconsistency for some time now. It is something not many linux-tubers talk about or test when they test new distros. I am so happy we did what we did with TROMjaro. Thanks Roko for your thoughtful thoughts and for being part of the project!
@Tio @Brodie Robertson @Derek
Honestly there's a lot of these little #UX issues in #Linux that I haven't noticed before until I started working for TROMjaro, and I'm glad we were able to fix some of those issues ourselves. I think maybe part of the reason why you notice such things is because you let your parents, sister & wife use it, so just by observing how your family use TROMjaro you can infer which areas can be confusing for normal everyday people who lacks the technical know-how.

https://www.videoneat.com/documentaries/14576/baraka/

Baraka (1992) is a #documentary with no narration, story, or dialog, and yet this is one of the most intense, beautiful and moving films I've ever seen. The #cinematography of this film is absolutely stunning, music and editing is also great. I found out that its also the first #film ever to be restored and scanned at 8K resolution. Anyway, I'm glad I found this gem.

P.S. I know there is sequel to this documentary called Samsara, I'll be watching that next.

Newly added documentary on VideoNeat.com:

Love it. Has extremely vivid pictures and a wide range of feelings. And as a German person I struggled with the second half of it. If you have seen it, you know. If not, I recommend it!
But beware: there are very touching szenes in it. Good as well as the opposite.

#film #documentary #breathtaking #fascinating #insightful #feelings #music

Love as well the music of #deadcandance in it!
@SteveTux I've seen someone describe this film as poetry in motion and that's exactly what I felt like, so unique and different from the kind of movies we're used to.
I agree. And I was surprised to read in your post about the second part. Will definitely try to watch it.

Poetry can also sometimes be disturbing, which happend to me during some parts of the movie. Wasn't prepared to see part of my countries bad sides to put together with tis beautiful and arrangements in the beginning. But I guess if you don't know what you are seeing it isn't that surprising.
@SteveTux
I made the mistake of watching it with subtitles disabled so I didn't know what exactly it was showing, but still it was very heartbreaking to watch some of it, I totally understand how that can be disturbing for some. I watched with my dad and he had a similar experience, it moves you emotionally.
well disabled subtitles give you a distraction free experience of pictures and sounds. That is as well magic.
Saw the movie already three times in my life. Always magical.
@SteveTux
I will of course watch this again sometime with subtitles on, to get the context behind these scenes.
and if you liked those you also want to see IMAX Chronos, and the very first of that sort: Man With A Movie Camera.

Have you ever wondered how computers work? Like how the processor, ROM and RAM communicate with each other to produce an output that gets displayed on a screen? I've found this series of videos on YouTube where the guy builds a basic computer with a classic 6502 microprocessor and goes through how everything works, and by the end he successfully prints the message "Hello, world!" on an LCD interface. Considering how complex this topic is, his explanation was really good.

I just found the most amazing #puzzle game on @fdroidorg, its called #FlowIt and is very fun to play! πŸ˜ƒ

Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bytehamster.flowitgame

Source code: https://github.com/Flowit-Game/Flowit

They also seem to have a desktop version of the game but I haven't tried it out - https://github.com/Flowit-Game/flowit-vita

#FDroid #FOSS #PuzzleGame #FLOSS
Screenshot of the game. There are lots of little boxes colored Yellow, Grey, Red, and Green. Most of the boxes are empty and only has color on its border, except a few special ones which has an arrow or circle on it. Screenshot of a finished game, in front of you is a text that reads "Level complete".
A screenshot of the game where they explain how it works. The title at the top reads "How to play Flow it" and there is a simple diagram explaining the basic concept of the game. Below the diagram it reads "Fill all boxes with the color of their border". Screenshot of the game showing a more complex level. This time it has many special boxes containing an arrow, circle, bomb or an arrow combined with a little rotate symbol on it.

I agree with the comments below this video, there is no need to use the word stable and cause confusion among each other. Arch is a rolling release distro while Debian is a static release distro, and both are pretty reliable enough for daily usage. Alpha software is usually rolling and unreliable.

The social impacts of moderation & censorship

This entry was edited (10 months ago)

Dr. Percy reshared this.

Nitter, Invidous and the like, cannot be blamed for fetching remote content from twittter or Youtube. So if someone posts child porn, or god forbid GUNS on twitter or youtube, and others access it via our nitter/invidious instances, it is not even legal in our stupid world of stupid laws, to accuse me. It is simply proxying and the content from youtube/twitter is not even on my server. Perhaps federated networks should do that if possible. It is already doing something similar in the sense that I, as admin, can choose to remove remote cached content daily or immediately. You can still connect to others, but the content needs to be fetched every time you "poke" at them or something like that...

This is the saner way of doing it. Not the butcher way please! Cut and slice! But the librarian way. Sit down and come up with a solution that is future-proof and does not impede people's ability to connect with others.
(mind if I don't reply all at once? it may become quite long otherwise, and some subtopics make sense to be split)
different people want to block different types of stuff than others.
What I meant with unfair moderation is when the same content is treated differently according to who wrote it. For example, see this comment on a Lemmy drama. The first user seemed to benefit from a laxist treatment because they shared the admins' political opinion, hence the accusations of unfair moderation. (for the record, that first person ended up getting a 5-days ban) Please, anyone reading this, let us not turn this about a discussion of whether or not there was a double standard, I only meant to say that this kind of double standards may exist, and not every dispute on moderation concerns the two types mentioned in the OP
@Liwott
What I meant with unfair moderation is when the same content is treated differently according to who wrote it.
Okay I understand what you mean now. So your point was that moderators could treat people differently based on their political believes, religion, race, etc. This might happen sometimes, as moderators are humans too, and well, humans can be biased. For example, an admin might be more reluctant to block an instance if they have close friends on it compared to other instances where they don't know anyone (so they block it without much thought). I think this could be seen as one more reason why users choosing for themselves is better than letting admins handle everything.
Some rules are really rules, others are what the ignorant call upon when they've reached the end of their short lived character.
