Hotel Sakartvelo is a Soviet-era ruin in Georgia. At the heart of the building lies a three-storey atrium with a shallow decorative pool. The floor of this pool is decorated with a huge #mosaic of cartoon-stlyised fish, seaweed, and star-shaped patterns. Trees grow inside, as nature reclaims this space.

Art Deco style mosaic on the former British Polar Engines Works on Helen Street on the Southside of Glasgow. The company was formed in 1927 to produce a range of reliable marine diesel engines originating from a Swedish design which was used on the Fram as part of Roald Amundsen's 1906 expedition to be the first to reach the South Pole in 1911. It went into liquidation in 2022.

A collage I did yesterday

CW: Mention of mental health stuff (nothing current)

I made a collage/mosaic out of 5 pictures cut into many peaces:
my shattered portrait represents my depression
the shattered house reps my traumatic childhood
the shattered forest reps the current geopolitical situation
red reps my broken heart
In the bottom right corner there is my dog #Platon. Only he is whole. He looks at it all and sees a complete picture, with no flaws and no judgement. Platon makes me whole. :flan_heart:

Zeugma Mandala

A beautiful Roman mosaic floor created over 2,000 years ago in the ancient city of Zeugma, Türkiye, a major eastern frontier city of the Roman Empire. It can be viewed at the Gaziantep Zeugma Mosaic Museum. The mosaics found in the Roman houses at Zeugma, thought to have been founded by a general in Alexander the Great’s army, date to the 2nd and 3rd centuries CE, depict scenes from Greek and Greco-Roman mythologies and popular novels, some with captions in Greek. Archaeological finds from the sanctuaries of Zeugma show that the city played a key role in Antiochus’ efforts to link the Greek and Persian cultural spheres, in accordance with the kingdom’s key position between these two worlds, on the Euphrates.
