Dogfennel plants (Eupatorium capillifolium) spotted at Bukit Gombak Park, Singapore on 15 Feb 2025. Different species of Tiger butterflies were feeding on the alkaloids produced by the plant, which makes the butterflies distasteful to predators.

A plant with multiple thin vertical hairy stalks. Some of the stalks are green, while others are brown. Two species of butterflies are feeding on the plant: the Plain Tiger (Danaus chrysippus) at the top and bottom left, the Black-veined Tiger (Danaus melanippus) at the left and bottom right. Both butterflies are coloured like the Monarch butterfly. But the Plain Tiger does not have dark stripes on the wings, while the Black-veined Tiger has strong dark stripes on the wings.

A Black Bat Flower (Tacca chantrieri) spotted in the National Orchid Garden at the Singapore Botanic Gardens on 27 July 2025. It has been many years since I last saw one, so nice to see it again.

They belong to the yam family, and got the name by being black with bracts that resemble wings.

Ended the day back in Perugia, Umbria, Italy on 20 Oct 2024. Visited the nearby Cuparella Park and saw some flowers: a White Campion (Silene latifolia) and a Mallow (genus Malva). Also saw a magnificent sunset from a popular spot above the park: others were also there to get shots.

Description of the park. It says: "Cuparella Park The park’s paths through the garden connect Via Pellini with Via della Cupa above, which can be reached via the steps along the walls. In this public green area it is possible to admire significant sections of the mighty Etruscan wall, built of travertine blocks and dating back to the 3rd century B.C. It is interesting to note that only in this precise point of the city does the medieval wall coincide with the Etruscan wall; you can tell them apart from the different size of the stones. Nestled between the lower blocks is a small secondary passageway reserved for pedestrians, called a “postierla” [“back door”], and dating back to the Etruscan period. The Tuscan landscape architect Pietro Porcinai contributed to the realisation of the area in the 1950s. He organised the particularly steep, and hitherto impassable, space by creating terraces connected by easily accessible paths. In 2009-2010, the park was also equipped with an arena."

Went for a walk on our final day in Tuscany, Italy, 19 Oct 2024. Spotted this European Robin (Erithacus rubecula), Eurasian Blackbird (Turdus merula) and Afro-Australian Daisy (genus Dimorphotheca). Also caught the colours of autumn in the nearby town. Then off we go to Perugia in Umbria.
