Say hello to the new Clipboard Project 0.9.1! This first release of 2024 brings in added security and some nice bug fixes

The Clipboard Project is a clipboard manager that works entirely in your terminal. It has tons of swanky features including this new one in 0.9.1 that lets you securely ignore copying passwords and other things like that!

Interesting that there is a flatpak build as well. I knew it was possible to run cli programs with flatpak but this the first programm i see that explicitly lists that as an option.

China plans to complete a fusion power tokamak reactor by 2030.

in reply to Dessalines

I find it odd they are going with a Tokamak design which has been tested for decades and has issues that require complicated engineering to solve Magnetic confinement of the plasma being the massive one I have to wonder why they are not going with a Stellarator design Maybe their engineering and science isn't up to it

And realistically, there are no good reasons America couldn't have a decent high speed rail system across the eastern seaboard and maybe the western seaboard with a couple connecting links between them where the population supports it.
in reply to GreyEyedGhost

The US can't even build high speed rail from LA to San Francisco, and they're no closer to even starting it than they were when they started talking about it 20 years ago. It's cooked.

Newly added to the Trade-Free Directory:

World Weather Attribution

World Weather Attribution is an academic collaboration studying extreme event attribution, calculations of the impact of climate change on extreme meteorological events such as heat waves, droughts, and storms. When an extreme event occurs, the project computes the likelihood that the occurrence, intensity, and duration of the event was due to climate change. The project specializes in producing reports rapidly, while news of the event is still fresh.

Holy shit the downvotes here are really ghoulish, i wish all those people a quick experience of the things they are cheering here.
in reply to PolandIsAStateOfMind

Yeah, people cheering whatever the fuck Zelensky is doing to the people they supposeddly "support" is.. Scary to say the least. Is it "won't happen to me" mentality? Is it "hurt Russia at a cost of whatever amount of Ukrainians it takes" mentality? I dunno...

And the funniest part - I can understand why people downvote my comment (I used quite "strong" language there), but why the fuck are they downvoting the post? XD
Is "kyivindependent" also a Russian propaganda now? ๐Ÿคฆโ€

Anyway, there is a good side to this too, I'm even kinda happy that my post got so many downvotes - it means .ml is not a total "tankie" circlejerk, and there actually are people with opposing views here (even if those views are about genociding my country...).

Is it โ€œwonโ€™t happen to meโ€ mentality?

Mostly. Majority of people on this site is more or less the same as reddit, westerners. A lot of them privileged, sheltered westerners. For them, especially the Americans, the war is not real. Their grandfathers weren't dying in nazi death camps, their fathers weren't dying from drugs or alcoholism or poverty during economical transformation. For them it's a show to watch on TV, and since we here are telling them something entirely different than the narration they got used to in last two years, they get cognitive dissonance and lash at what cause it the most. Even including the sources they were taking as a gospel before.

And some are worse, those that are more or less aware, that it was their grandfathers who gained their golden age when ours were dying in camps, and their fathers gained their end of history when ours got pummeled by transformation.

Oh boy oh boy it arrived. And what a friendly seller ๐Ÿ‘Œ Kinda a shame that they gave up this hobby. Sold everything for an apple and an egg. Itโ€™s a #ViperPit #SimPit loosely based on a F-16. Nothing of this is functional though. Yet.

heavy use for a year now. Think the seller was happy to see it going to someone using it again ๐Ÿ˜

Usually this is work and parts in the 4 digits area. This was an absolute steal though for just 260EUR. Alas nothing is functional and restoring stuff to function is quite time consuming as well. Part of the hobby though so that's fine and expected.

Cristoforo Colombo.

US spends a record $17.9 billion on military aid to Israel since last Oct. 7

Unlike the United States' publicly documented military aid to Ukraine, it was impossible to get the full details of what the U.S. has shipped Israel since last Oct. 7, so the $17.9 billion for the year is a partial figure, the researchers said.

They cited Biden administration "efforts to hide the full amounts of aid and types of systems through bureaucratic maneuvering."

I wish the media would explain just how much money this is so the uninformed donโ€™t just think itโ€™s a high number. This is quite literally 17,900 stacks of 1 millions dollars each. Itโ€™s insane, but there seem to be plenty of people out there who donโ€™t understand how large of a number this really is.

I missed the Internet Archive yesterday when @pluralistic@mamot.fr casually mentioned "Keppler illustrations for Puck" as if we'd all know what that meant and the best-looking link that came up on search was to a collection of them there.

Wayland Protocols 1.38 released

This full packed release comes with three new staging protocols:
- system bell - allowing e.g. terminal emulators to hand off system bell alerts to the compositor for among other things accessibility purposes
- fifo - for implementing first in first out surface content update behavior
- commit timing - for adding time constraints to surface content update

Other than this, the presentation timing protocol protocol got a version minor bump describing how to deal with variable refresh rate.

Other protocols saw the regular clarifications and bug fixes, and some deprecated events is now properly indicated as such in the XML. Please see individual commits for details.

Germany's Scholz announces more military aid as Zelenskiy visits Berlin

Zelenskiy has been meeting allies in Europe this week to present a "victory plan" to end the war while also pressing to use long-range weapons that can strike deeper into Russian territory.

The details of his plan have not been divulged publicly. A U.S. official has previously described it as a repackaged request for more weapons and a lifting of restrictions on the use of long-range missiles.

A European diplomatic source also said that there appeared to be nothing especially new in the victory plan.
