We Distribute Is On Temporary Hiatus

in reply to spaduf

How could one help them?
in reply to Ademir

We Distribute needs a lot of help in getting to a healthy place. We need help with writing, editing, social media direction, and A/V production. We also need assistance with securing funding through donations, partnerships, and grants, and need to finish the work in establishing We Distribute Media as a 501c3, which was work we initially started in the beginning of this year.
in reply to Ademir

Hey, thanks for asking! It largely boils down to money, people, and time. I'm currently a full-time student, and struggling to stay afloat.

Here's all the things I currently do:
* Research / Testing (gathering info for stories, tracking down info for sources, testing apps and platforms)
* Writing articles, interviews, guides, and reviews.
* Content Editing pieces submitted by contributors
* Scheduling for Podcast interviews
* A/V Production
* Podcast Distribution
* Music Promotion
* Graphic Design (thumbnails and such)
* WordPress development (features and data)
* Social Media Management (11+ accounts)
* Instance moderation
* Event coverage
* Manage a Contributor Team
* Fundraising
* System Administration

I'm probably missing a few things. It's a lot! And, while I've been able to balance this out for a long time, my severe burnout has seen diminishing returns. I'm at a point where articles are getting finished days and even weeks after something has happened, which... isn't great.

All of this stuff is more or less being done for pennies an hour. It's not sustainable.

That certainly doesn't seem sustainable at all. You need to take care of yourself and I think you're making a good decision.
in reply to ericjmorey

To be fair, it kind of bubbled up gradually over the course of several years. 😅 It did not happen all at once!

in reply to renzev

One thing I miss about Lync (maybe the only thing lol) was that each chat was a separate window. ...you couldn't combine them unfortunately but I often find myself wishing I could pop a chat out of Slack, Discord, etc.
in reply to JackbyDev

Yeah discord let's you too! On the actual desktop app, at least, unsure about discord web... I believe I used teams' pop out in browser feature once, though!

Bluetooth dongle working without propietary firmware

cross-posted from: lemmy.ml/post/21430107

I'm having trouble to find a bluetooth dongle at least 3.0 that needs no propietary firmware. It's easy to find dongles advertised as linux compatible or users that claim that an specific brand works fine in linux, but the problem is that many of them are using propietary firmware without their users being aware because their distributions have already installed propietary drivers or firmwares, or ask users to install them and they just do it. I use debian main repository (without non-free software) in which I failed to make work a couple of linux compatible advertised dongles because debian ask me to install a propietary firmware. So if anyone knows for certain that some brand that needs no such a software in linux I'll apreciate your help.

I don't think it's possible to use modern bluetooth or wifi anymore without mystery blobs
in reply to ryannathans

I'm already using one that doesn't require proprietary firmware, but it's Bluetooth version 1.1 which it has its limitations
in reply to corvus

Yeah I wouldn't call 1.1 modern. For wifi it's nothing since wifi 4
in reply to corvus

I am not sure if it required a blob or not but I use an ASUS USB-BT500 on my Arch system and I only installed the bluez package for it to work (and bluedevil for the GUI on KDE).

The unnamed U.S. lawmakers

The Kyiv Independent (despite NATO Bias/Fact Check’s opinion) is not a reliable outlet, so I’d take this with a grain of salt. This might be an effort to shift blame away from local government. But that doesn’t really matter, what matters is that the net for the meat grinder will be cast wider.

Might be, but I've seen articles (not from ua government) about plans to do this (and US pressure on that matter) long before the government spoke about it, so might be true.

But that doesn’t really matter, what matters is that the net for the meat grinder will be cast wider.

Yep :(
What will probably happen, is that kidnapping age will be reduced to something like 20-21, and it will be presented as a great success of Zelensky the Merciful.

Speed Dreams – open source racing simulator

Speed Dreams is a Motorsport Simulator featuring high-quality 3D graphics and an accurate physics engine, all targeting maximum realism. Initially forked from TORCS, it has now reached a clearly higher realism level in visual and physics simulation, thanks to its active development team and growing community. It mainly aims to implement exciting new features, cars, tracks and AI opponents to make a more enjoyable game for the player, while constantly pushing forward visual and physics realism. It is also intended for any research, study or teaching activity, around physics and AI, thanks to its GPL v2+ license, and the clear and modular architecture of its C/C++ code base.

Same thing with Euphoria. Like, I'm not American, but at least where I live, there's no teens acting like that lol. The whole show felt needlessly dramatic and shocking to me, just for the sake of it.

And the deadline is just after the election and if Trump wins, then they don't need to do absolutely anything. Just wait and take preventive measures if Harris wins.

There are people here who didn't even notice the axis and are confused. How do you expect everyone to notice a 5% drop lol.

My point is that it is hardly visible and doesn't show the exact numbers properly. I prefer the current style of graph for showing sudden changes if the previous data points isn't that important in the context. But everyone has their preference I suppose.
