Why do wet dogs shake themselves dry? Neuroscience [finally] has an answer

in reply to zlatiah

The technical mumbo jumbo is greek to me, so all I can read is "Why do dogs shake when they are wet? Because they can feel the water!"
in reply to ArcaneSlime

Yeah, I think the title is a bit misleading and manages to make both the scientists and the dogs appear stupid.
in reply to Fleur_

Did you read it? Because of the high sensitivity. Their skin can tell between a bug and a drop of water. Submersion would feel even more different, not triggering the response
in reply to 4lan

He clearly didn't read it.

After Trump won again, I'm sort of fed up with morons like that guy. If he wants to be an illiterate idiot while tve answer is right in front of him; let him.

No more covering for stupidity that stems from laziness and willfull ignorance

in reply to Dasus

I share your frustration with the election result. I'd like to point out that venting it on strangers and making others more miserable is not the healthy way to go about it.

I would like to take the time to point out that I am not an American, am a socialist and am quite astounded by the meltdown this throwaway garbage comment of mine caused 😂
in reply to Fleur_

It's not you I'm mad with. It's just with what your comment represents.

I'm really glad you released all your pent up political anger towards media illiteracy at me, for asking a question.... About dogs.... And why they shakey...
in reply to Fleur_

If you don't want people pointing at you and talking about stupid questions, don't ask them.

Yes, yes, such funny answer, no articles so seem like babby language, haahaa

The answer was in the post. I'm sick and tired of people considering politeness more important than common sense.

"But wyy doggo shako wyyyy wyyy"

Climate change isn't our biggest problem. Ignorance is.

My intention was to make fun of the other comments saying "the dog shakes because it's wet" to paraphrase. I was not seriously asking why dogs don't shake when submerged. I tried to convey that by using improper language that imparts an innocent tone.

I know some good parks if you need any recommendations on some good places to touch grass to help out with your dommer mentality btw

in reply to Fleur_

Tired of everyone making everything a fucking joke. Nothing is serious the world won't burn hahahaha

I know some good forums if you need any recommendations for forums where to practice your jokes to help out your "comedy" btw

Aight send me the link. I'll check it out most of my material is coming from here

FunnyJokes.com

Open to constructive criticism 😄

in reply to Fleur_

I'm genuinely sorry this had to be about your joke, but it's not about you, personally. It's just about everyone doing what you're doing. So you + a whole bunch of other people.

But stop fucking making light of everything.

Why.

Why why why.

Why can't people take shit seriously for just like 30 minutes till we fix this shit and then we can have jokes again?

This is the only planet in the universe known to support life. I'm sorry I'm not "fun at parties" but we have to fix this shit.

in reply to Dasus

This is literally a you problem. Not everyone is obligated to be constant doomer post because you feel that way.
in reply to Fleur_

You being offended about me talking straight about this is definitely a you problem, I agree.

You can't see how important this is. Humans require humour, yeah, but more importantly, we need a breathable atmosphere.

If what it takes is everyone online I interact with getting utterly bored and wanting to change the subject.... so what?

in reply to Dasus

I think you're not quite right about whos changing the subject

Meme asside. This "I'm miserable so everyone around me must be too" thing you've got going on is self centered at best. Buy some frozen peas and go feed som ducks or what ever you need to self actualise and come back when you're feeling better.

Ahahahahaha yeah sorry man next time I promise I'll read the article and not make a joke comment so that carmilla of styria wins 😭😭
in reply to Fleur_

Who the fuck wants Carmilla of Styria to win. She'll never be satisfied, always clawing for more. There is no winning with her, only not having lost so far.
in reply to 4lan

Am I really being shamed for making an obvious joke comment. Like fr this topic is niche I'm not gonna pay to read an article so I can more accurately shitpost on the internet.
in reply to Fleur_

They didn't have the funding to find that out. My theory is that they actually do, but it is slowed down because of the water resistance. This action slowed down appears to us as doggy paddle.

Federation issues between Lemm.ee and Lemmy.ml

Hello everyone,

There seems to be some federation delay between lemm.ee and lemmy.ml: grafana.lem.rocks/d/bdid38k9p0…

There is now a more than 5 days delay between the two instances

@sunaurus@lemm.ee FYI

.ml has been having some technical issues recently btw, they recently set thumbnails to open smaller, presumably to decrease the bandwidth they have to send.

@dessalines@lemmy.ml

in reply to alcoholicorn

I've deployed a fix for that on lemmy.ml now. Not sure about this federation issue.

The description mentioned open source ai definition doesnt require data to be open. But opensource.org/ai/open-source-… explicitly require the data to be open?
in reply to tengkuizdihar

no it doesn't. it only says the weights and information about the training data must be open, not the training data itself. which is honestly useless.
This entry was edited (1 year ago)
in reply to Masterkraft0r

Data information == metadata?

(2) a listing of all publicly available training data and where to obtain it; and (3) a listing of all training data obtainable from third parties and where to obtain it, including for fee.

imo this also includes "the data must be open". The data used for training must be obtainable.

in reply to tengkuizdihar

that's your interpeetation. what's missing for me is "must be freely (as in not only by specific entities) obtainable". with this wording i could just say: "this data is not obtainable" and be done with it.

When you mix being an ideologue with software will forever lose.

don't like this

What's with the cross?

Hi.

Does anyone know why is there a red cross on the icon here?

This device is a Corsair USB flash drive. I initially thought it may be because the data was corrupted as there were a couple of years where it remained unconnected and I know SSD does not like that. But I formatted the drive (ExFAT) and it still shows up with a red cross in Nemo file manager.

Any idea what this actually means?

Thanks for any insight.

in reply to Affidavit

for me it looks like the icon is broken, if there's no other warning i'm sure the volume is working fine
in reply to Richard

I reckon this is probably what the issue is. Maybe it's of a device type where an icon wasn't created or where some reference to the icon's image is broken. Thank you.

Good. I hope the lawsuit is successful. Intel did not handle this very well, to say the least.

Mistakes are OK. How you handle them makes a difference and Intel has been a shitshow on this front. For a long time.

If they had been acting in good faith the entire time this lawsuit would not exist.
