Sooo.... That means Mamdani's proposals are good!

Glad we cleared that up.

FEMA search and rescue chief resigns after frustration with Texas flood response

The head of FEMA’s Urban Search and Rescue branch, which runs a network of teams stationed across the country that can swiftly respond to natural disasters, resigned on Monday.

Ken Pagurek’s departure comes less than three weeks after a delayed FEMA response to catastrophic flooding in central Texas caused by bureaucratic hurdles put in place by the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees the disaster response agency.

Pagurek told colleagues at FEMA that the delay was the tipping point that led to his voluntary departure after months of frustration with the Trump administration’s efforts to dismantle the agency, according to two sources familiar with his thinking. It took more than 72 hours after the flooding for Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to authorize the deployment of FEMA’s search and rescue network.

“It is laughable that a career public employee, who claims to serve the American people, would choose to resign over our refusal to hastily approve a six-figure deployment contract without basic financial oversight,” another DHS spokesman said in a statement about Pagurek’s resignation.

another DHS spokesman is complete fucking asshole, idiot.

I had to stop myself from downvoting you out of frustration for just reading that comment. Like jesus fucking christ, 100+ people died and they're sitting on their ass worried about a 'six-figure deployment contract'. That's less than a million dollars! That's fucking nothing at a government level!!!

Funny how the federal government had no problem hastily sending troops to LA when it was completely unnecessary.

GOP’s Murkowski says she feels ‘cheated’ by administration following megabill’s passage

in reply to MicroWave

…. Why is this a new trend? Politicians disagreeing with bills but voting for them anyway?
in reply to aceshigh

Blind partisanship is stronger than ever, plus personal gains over common good.
in reply to aceshigh

It's all for show. She can try to say she didn't want to vote for it in the next election cycle when it's brought up. She was just a victim.

She was ALWAYS going to vote for it.

Listen to Donnie's interviews with Howard Stern.

He boasts of walking into the dressing rooms of the Miss Teen USA pageant.

According to one of his assistants, Trump liked to put his fingers in the models' mouths to 'check their teeth.'

Scientists study how people would react to a neurotic robot personality in real life

Spoiler alert: it makes them more relatable. Maybe Marvin knew what he was doing the whole time, and diodes down his left side were perfectly fine.

I just played Thrive last month for the first time in my life on Steam, and it has such a great potential, even though this has been an ongoing project for a long time, but it's still amazing to have something like this.

I wish youtube also wipes out thousands of propaganda channels linked to other countries.

3 Hour Uncut Channel 5 Interview with Hunter Biden

in reply to dil

I’m only halfway through. I like how he’s being real but there is still a bit of politician type vibe with the way he talks sometimes. I would hang out with Hunter though and party with him if he was down.

Also, much respect for the way he breaks down crack vs cocaine

3 mods for 12k active users? This is not nearly enough imho
in reply to db0

I was surprised about this ratio (and the fact that it seems to work for them), too.
I could imagine that a large percentage of lurkers and a maybe more reasonable community than other platforms could be helping factors?

My mastodon account is on a kind of small instance, and I'd love to be able to report posts directly to the originating instance, without also reporting it to "my" admin. I just don't wasn't then to waste their time locally blocking a clear spam account, that should (and usually will be) removed by the originating instance in a couple hours.

I am afraid, that removal of spam account does not necessarily federate to another instance. On Mastodon activities federate mainly to instances an account, which made/edited/deleted the post, is followed from. (Or an instance can subscribe to relay, which exchanges all activities between all participating instances).

Report always landing to your admin may be something good in light of this...

in reply to db0

Yea wtf? That seems insanely low. There's no way they can keep up with all content right? At least they can only be reactionary right, like when reports are made?
in reply to db0

That's why i prefer being mod there. On any lemmy/mbin/piefed instance, we can scale our mod team based on community's topic and its subcriber.

If the community is political/news...we increase our team. On chill community, 3 mods is enough. And if there is more users than we can add news mods.

So when i read this paper, i'm afraid of burning out, i don't know how they manage it. They only manage repport i guess ?

Kinda fucked up that this person moderated hate posts only to find the child predators posting images of their kids on a different forum.

Don't know about you, but whenever I see hate groups specifically targeting children, I think the intention is very clear. Not just spreading hate, but also wanting to act on one of the socially forbidden sex acts as well.

Among Bessent’s questions are “What is the Federal Reserve” and “how does it work”?

He explicitly requested answers to be submitted in picture form.

If you look at his background it's pretty clear he does, or at least should, know better. The guy has a definite pedigree in finance. Unlike a lot of other people in Taco's admin, he seems to have qualifications.

It's just that he apparently has no limit to the depths which he'll sink to support Taco. He probably thinks he is in any way different than everyone else Taco has tossed aside like a used Kleenex the minute it becomes inconvenient...

Do other countries have a press pool for their "leader" like we do?

It does seem a little odd now that I think about it

Georgia GOP has won 2026 already — with a truly evil scheme

in reply to return2ozma

Headline is misleading and actively harmful. This produces the apathy the right wants from us. That they are engaging in voter suppression does not declare the results ahead of time. It can make it more difficult to win but far, far from impossible

Don't do their dirty work for them by claiming it cannot be overcome at all. That just makes their job a lot easier. If the GOP really thought Georgia was on lock, then governor Kemp wouldn't have stated he doesn't want to run. The same for Marjorie Taylor Greene. They're super worried they'll lose and hurt their career which is not how they'd be acting if it were impossible to win

WHO says residence and main warehouse in Gaza hit by Israeli forces

Staff quarters attacked three times and four people detained, three temporarily, as IDF tanks enter Deir al-Balah

The World Health Organization has said the Israeli military attacked its staff residence and main warehouse in Deir al-Balah on Monday, compromising its operations in Gaza.

The UN agency said the WHO staff residence was attacked three times, with airstrikes causing a fire and extensive damage, and endangering staff and their families, including children.

The zionists dont value western lives any more than they do Palestinian ones. If it werent for the funding they extract from the west, they'd be attacking every non israeli they see. Its not the first time they have done this. They cleansed the region like this back in the Roman Jewish wars.

Palestinians desperate for in the Al-Rimal neighbourhood of central Gaza City, on Sunday. Israel has routinely attacked Palestinians seeking food aid.

I'm really glad The Guardian's not whitewashing what Israel is doing and actually calling it out. It's getting harder and harder for news outlets to cover up the genocide

"And we're seeing a particular pattern of injuries whereby particular body parts are being targeted on particular days. So one day we will see mainly abdominal gunshot wounds. Another day we'll see head gunshot wounds. Another day we'll see neck gunshot wounds. So there is a very clear pattern that all, not just me but all of us, have seen in this hospital, whereby particular body parts are targeted on particular days"
in reply to Rhaxapopouetl

Pfeiffer: The shooting that we heard earlier that's happening so close to your hospital, are we hearing fighting? Are we hearing defense? What is happening that is so audible in the background?

Maynard: This is through fighting almost certainly between gangs or families who are fighting over food. We've seen this on several occasions. This is not the Israeli military and it's not Hamas, we're told very reliably. It's fighting gangs or fighting families who are trying to get food, and this is born out of desperation for food because they are all starving.

Gunshot wounds like that could also be results from these fights between Palestinians.

They're doing some Rape of Nanking shit over there, aren't they?

How long til we learn that they've been performing vivisections, and kicking human heads around like footballs?
