I tried to create an account to mirror @missionlibre 's account on Insta. I thought doing so would was a reasonable compromise, so long as I made sure I did it on borrowed computers, used a script to actually post and made sure I was absolutely clear I hated Insta.
But Meta wasn't having it one bit. I had to start by making my first-ever personal Facebook account and Facebook just wouldn't let me.

Hmm, I think Discord would be way beyond my comfort zone.
I think the trouble with joining a Discord community is that participating makes the app more attractive. You can't be there to promote free software without being a full participant.
Thank the Easter Bunny social media's dying, anyway. I hope better ways of reaching people start appearing.

There are plenty opportunities. Just now in chat that a repo name was taken on github. Good opportunity to name-drop #codeberg as a better forge that has the name available. A quick 2 cents of promo for the #FOSS cause may leave 🌱 seeds to take root and help shift perspectives.

You might be interested in Social experience design. It goes beyond #UX to consider people's Needs and, well.. their social experience brought by the #SX solution. How technical code makes people feel in the 'sociosphere', let's say. Offline on the other side of the tech divide :)

in reply to 🫧 socialcoding.. • • •I did everything right: I used my real details and I did it from a library computer. Somehow Facebook was on to me and permanently disabled my account within 2 days.
I've heard from other activists (outside of free software) that they're often targeted, too. Not even controversial ones: think local welfare or recycling advocates. Really.
