A case study in the #sideloading scare on MacOS… 🤷
So no, it’s not “sideloading”, it’s just called “installing an app” and it’s been for the last 40 years.

These houses survived one of the country's worst wildfires. Here’s how
The wildfire in Lahaina, Maui spread through extreme winds and intense heat. Still, a handful of houses were untouched thanks to the owners preparing the buildings and yards.

they have managed to complelely normalise the idea that hardware is a service, a platform that they should control
bitch, i buy metal, i will run whatever the fuck i want on it

In the same way you could try to justify platforms like Amazon taking away books or movies you had purchased. But most people choose to disagree rather than blindly submit to vendor’s arbitrary whims.
That’s why there’s various Hackintosh projects.

the choice is to either be an outcast in life, or live in their duopoly
this should 100% be illegal and i will 100% blame apple and google for this

That sounds like very American thinking where people absolutely distrust government and equally absolutely trust private for profit companies. As if the for-profit motivation made them somehow less prone to abuse their customers and more “honest”, while endless stream of examples demonstrates the opposite. The thing is that Apple, Twitter or Google don’t sell their products in EU directly from US, because they would not be able to draw profits - they sell them through their EU branches, which are naturally subject to EU law. In the same way you could argue that if Apple doesn’t like EU regulations, it’s free to leave the EU market - which it of course doesn’t do because it’s $$$.

I work for the EU from the USA, I scrub environmental BOMs for their ECHA databases. Its an out-of control bureaucratic CORPORATION that only knows how to SPEND money.
I do not have opinions, I have life experiences.

Why strange? Amazon doesn’t take away your Kindle either, they “only” take away books you purchased (or at least you thought you did).
But I’m not - thanks to EU regulations I can now install apps from other sources than AppStore.

A phone is a phone, it should do a phone’s job. If the job requires apps that aren’t available on AppStore, I just get them any way I can. Because it’s the point of owning a phone.
