Love the bird-like creatures emerging from the foliage on this Corinthian capital on the Liverpool and London and Global Building on St Vincent Street in Glasgow. Designed by James Thomson, with sculptures by James Young, it was built in 1899.

I think it might have started with media reporting on a police report, I think from the US, that went something like "a big boulder the size of a small boulder is blocking the road".

I *distinctly* remember seeing that posted and reposted *a lot* on Fedi a while back, but I don't recall the exact wording. Maybe someone else can help out there or know if that was a humorous reference to something earlier.

People thinking passkeys are the one true way to do authentication, have forgotten that many users still use shared and public machines, like those at the local library...

I don’t understand this comment. All of my passkeys are accessed by my phone scanning a QR code that the operating system throws up. Much the same way my TOTP keys are on my phone, not my device.

A properly configured shared machine would refuse to store passkeys locally.

The inconvenience of a passkey is no more than that of any other 2fa device.

If your argument is that people don’t have a separate device at all for their passkeys or 2FA, then yes it’s a problem, but not one that has a technical solution.

Usernames and passwords are insecure and unwieldy in this day and age.

in reply to Moof!

@moof if you're using the library computer, you probably don't have the second device. That's the issue. And I'm not sure how to solve it. I agree user/pass is not secure these days. At the other end of the spectrum, I haven't checked recently, but what's the best way of using a pass key across multiple devices without using the cloud?
in reply to Quixoticgeek

We’ve already talked about yubikeys. I also believe Bitwarden can store its data on a usb drive rather than the cloud, though I have not tested this recently.
in reply to Quixoticgeek

@moof Probably not as user friendly an answer you want, but you can enroll a different passkey on each device without any syncing. Making passkeys more portable introduces new attacks.
in reply to Floating Onion

@FloatingOnion @moof great, so now I have to manage multiple pass keys across multiple machines and multiple platforms? Secure yes, Massive faff, very much so.

In this end-of-year special of #WebKitIgaliaPeriodicals we have a new GMallocString helper that makes management of malloc-based strings more efficient, development releases, and a handful of advancements on the #JavaScriptCore implementation of Temporal.

I can't wait for the day Trump dies and we all get to have a field day writing about him like he tweets about people when they die.

Sorta like this.

"Donald Trump, a sad and deranged man who despite having all the privileges one could ask for chose to be a vile human and died with no one caring about him.”

Democrats Abroad remembers Rob Reiner as a staunch defender of voting rights, especially for those abroad. He always used his platform for the good of others and to the benefit of all those who had the incredible opportunity to know him. The tragic loss of him and his wife Michele this weekend remind us to cherish each moment and move forward with the love and empathy Rob so proudly stood for.
