The trees and the statue
Near the Forty Foot in DΓΊn Laoghaire is a statue with religious carvings on it. For once, Google Maps wasnβt too helpful about what the statue was called.
Hopefully, someone from the area will see this and let me know what itβs called.

Do you think that when "L'ArrivΓ©e d'un train en gare de La Ciotat" first came out, there were a lot of breathless newspaper editorials about how you can't trust your eyes anymore, and guides on how to tell if you're actually about to be hit by a train?
People in media talk about AI-manipulated videos and images in the same flabbergasted way that the characters in "The Invention of Lying" react to learning that someone can say something untrue aloud.
We're logging off now after a wonderful #FediForum.
We might need a few days to recover but what an amazing three days!
We look forward to telling you more about it next week.
Some narrow technical information that might help someone. If you're using RStudio on Ubuntu to run Python code (which works well and is how I usually run Python) you're likely to get an error message with the question
Would you like to create a default python environment for the reticulate package?
That's because Ubuntu uses python3 and RStudio looks for python. Installing the python-is-python3 package is the solution.

These are a few of my favorite things.
Pope Francis says that both US presidential candidates are "against life" and that in voting, one must choose the "lesser of two evils."
My response, quite simply: the top leaders of the Catholic church have done serious damage not only to their church (and the world at large), but to themselves as well in refusing to ordain women and give women institutional governance power.

Mary Peltola won the first congressional race held with ranked-choice voting in Alaska, and she became the stateβs first Native member of Congress.
Native leaders are now working to protect that election system. boltsmag.org/alaska-ranked-choβ¦

Food adventures continue!
Benin is represented by fufu with beef and red sauce. I quite enjoyed this - the fufu reminds me of mashed parsnip. Deviated from the traditional communal presentation and plated individual servings. Got to use this year's tomato sauce!
Up next: Bhutan!

In Memphis, Elon Muskβs xAI is skirting environmental rules and has at least 18 generators burning methane gas next to Black communities without a permit.
It will eventually use 150MW of electricity β enough to power 100,000 homes β mainly to power the Grok chatbot.

Spent the past few days on a family backpacking trip at the Olympic NP on the 7 Lake Basin/High Divide Loop. We camped at Heart Lake on the 1st night and Deer Lake on the 2nd night, saw 3 bears across the valley, and ate lots of blueberries and huckleberries (explaining the bears). The views on this loop are just amazing. The camp at Heart Lake was brilliant as the sun hit early in the morning allowing us to dry everything off before continuing.
