Israel is recruiting African refugees for "life-threatening" operations in Gaza in exchange for settled status in the country, sources have revealed.
There are approximately 30,000 African asylum seekers in Israel.
They have faced growing pressure from anti-immigrant politicians, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who regularly refers to them as "infiltrators".

I often go on long walks around my neighborhood for exercise. And I often see ridiculously huge trucks or SUVs parked on the street.
These monstrosities are not only ugly, they're also extremely dangerous.
But fortunately, Jen Sorenson (@jensorensen) has a solution!

Key stages in the decline of academic Marxism
Of course this critique of Marxism is mostly wrong on many aspects, but it's at least honest (instead as being completely bunk as 99% of similar endeavours). It's somewhat similar to people criticising Darwin for not having a functioning genetic theory to try invalidating evolution.

Palestinians have warned of an imminent famine in the northern Gaza Strip as an ongoing Israeli blockade has forced five out of six functioning bakeries to shut down in the region.
“Five out of six bakeries in northern Gaza have shut down due to Israel’s blockade on the entry of fuel and raw materials needed to produce bread,” Kamel Ajjour, a baker owner, told Anadolu on Sunday.

Hey #mastodon #hivemind , #internet / #opensource #developers , #journalism pros, #podcast makers, #fediverse experts, etc., I'm seeking ideas & recommendations on how to do substantial, text-based or transcribed #interviews for Mastodon, but perhaps leveraging other Fediverse-friendly apps, for audio, video, etc. Ideally, using Mastodon to promote, share, submit questions, etc.
I'd like to create a best known methods doc to help others too, while evading the 500 char. limit.

🐧 🎮 Anti-Cheat gaming on Linux | New plans potentionally further helping ✅
◉Success would knock kernel-level anti-cheat
◉If fruitful - people can see more clear who block Linux purposefully
◉AC like this gone ~90% of games would run on Linux ◉Games like Fortnite would be made to run on Linux more likely? Tim Sweeney of Epig liking it or not
◉Windows is turning to a Linux distro in future?

Please help us test OpenSSH ahead of the 9.9 release, due in a few weeks.
New features include a new post-quantum key exchange based on ML-KEM, improved controls to disallow unwanted connections and better performance for the existing PQ key exchange.

I saw the ISS from my house last night. It was cool!
See it from your house: spotthestation.nasa.gov/
Yeah, so so cool. My daughters and I watched it fly by from our garden when it literally flew over our town this July, almost at 90 degrees, just one or two kllometers off.
A magical, magical sight. Makes you think.

(Sarcasm, of course... maybe they should regulate the truck size)

"Cars, you might have noticed, have grown enormous.
"Low-slung station wagons are all but extinct on American roads, and even sedans have become an endangered species. (Ford, producer of the iconic Model T a century ago, no longer sells any sedans in its home market.) Bulky SUVs and pickup trucks — which have themselves steadily added pounds and inches — now comprise more than four out of every five new cars sold in the US, up from just over half in 2013, even as national household size steadily declines.
"The expanding size of automobiles — a phenomenon I call #CarBloat — has deepened a slew of national problems. Take #RoadSafety: Unlike peer nations, the US has endured a steep rise in #TrafficDeaths, with fatalities among #pedestrians and #cyclists, who are at elevated risk in a crash with a huge car, recently hitting 40-year highs. Vehicle occupants face danger as well. A 2019 study concluded that compared to a smaller vehicle, an SUV or a pickup colliding with a smaller car was 28 percent and 159 percent, respectively, more likely to kill that car’s driver.
"Car bloat also threatens the planet. Because heavier vehicles require more energy to move, they tend to gulp rather than sip the gasoline or electricity that powers them, increasing #GreenhouseGas emissions. Extra weight also accelerates the erosion of #roadways and #tires, straining highway maintenance budgets and releasing #microplastics that damage #ecosystems."

But Ford's website says "Ford has quite an impressive line-up of new cars"!
"The Family of Ford Cars":
Mustang. That's it.

in reply to RD • • •It's also quite telling that when you click "Vehicles" -> "SUVs & Cars" -> "See the Ford Family of SUVs & Cars" it takes you to ford.com/suvs/ which has the header "Ford SUVs" on the top of the page, and no "Ford Cars" or equivalent header downward. Just SUVs. 🤦♂️

in reply to Bread and Circuses • • •Regulations put the squeeze on small vehicles so now mfgs are making bobtail semis with pickup beds.
As the squeeze gets tighter, the vehicles get bigger. Starting to blur the line between a pickup truck and a rig that needs a commercial license.

I LOVE @jensorensen work! I support her on Patreon where she talks about what triggered the idea.
Example from this week: She found an article about a Rice University study "comparing self-consuming AI to mad cow disease, a topic practically begging for a cartoon. "

Editorial cartoons can condense an idea in 4 panels, but Jen shares the story behind the panels on her Patreon page.

in reply to Bread and Circuses • • •this is a difference between a lifted, functional utility minded "large" truck that is literally used to tow people out of off-road trails (including things up to the size of busses) and one of the smallest off the line trucks you can buy today.
One of them is tall for a reason, clearance of bolders and other obstacles, the other literally has no clearance and would be functionally worthless off-road yet is taller and has a much smaller windshield and larger hood/entire front of the vehicle.
