Wow. This is a pretty good poll for Harris, even if Iowa is probably a bridge too far.

#Trump leads #Harris by only 4 points in #Iowa, erasing a lead of 18 points over #Biden from earlier in the Spring.

Political scientists had long found that candidates who used explicit racial demagoguery paid a price for it at the polls. Hence the need for coded dog-whistles.

But after Obama's election, they found that that penalty had disappeared.

And here we are.

People who emphasize the fact that the GOP ran on white racial grievance for decades before Trump came along aren't wrong, but this is the part they miss: He changed the whole permission structure for what they could say out loud and what kind of naked bigots they could associate with in public.

Conclusion from new study of reproducible science: "Make #code sharing a mandatory requirement for publishing articles using publicly available #data. Transitioning from an ideal to a tangible reality where #reproducible research is the norm is a necessity because only #OpenScience is good science."

This is touching on the #4opens which is simply a retelling of #FOSS as a social movement unite.openworlds.info/Open-Med… It's something that we need, ideas please on how to communicate this, and why it matters.

Great. Even more crap graduate students will have to do before they get their degrees: clean up the code they hacked together to get their thesis data.

Lolll.

All these Republicans who caused the Nazis and now don't want them after all.

in reply to Tarnport

Will writes, "most Americans disagree with most of what she believes."
So, um, that's not true. Like, literally, that's objectively false.
Every bit of real data we have about what "Americans believe" indicates that majorities agree with nearly everything Harris advocates.
Even "traditional" Republicans are living in a state of constant delusion and have been for all of their political careers.
*Gestures wildly at "trickle-down economics" as another proof of this fact.*

Conservatives need to believe they are the majority, because that makes them "normal" and everyone else "abnormal."
The reality is that they're the abnormal ones. They're the weirdos. And that's why calling them weird is such an effective attack. Their entire worldview is predicated on being able to other people who aren't like them.

Sometimes, while watching ThePrimeagen/ThePrimeTime,
you come across gem phrases perfect for debating programming languages.
Some examples from his recent video:
* "Rust does not guarantee that you've written a correct program."
* "Which is there is no replacement for human stupidity and this includes llms, because llms are written from human stupidity"
* "Devs are incrediable at Bikeshedding"

Interesting STUDY about #COVID19 transmission in restaurants. It confirms fomite (infection from contact) risk is low and that masking helps.

“The primary transmission routes were short-range (contributing 5.8%-70.9%) and long-range airborne (contributing 28.4%-93.0%), with fomite and large droplet routes contributing less than 12%. Staff-only mask wearing reduced infection risk by 12.8%-31.8%.”
