Thinking about how Covid changes people.
When Covid first appeared in 2020, one of my relatives who is a healthcare worker fought her employer for protections. Remember at the start (at least here in the US), protective equipment became scarce, and workers were re-using masks. My relative was saving one in a bag, and reusing the same one for a full week before being issued a new one.
She fearlessly pushed her senior leaders for more masks and other equipment, at a time when many were being fired for doing just that. As a result, she was placed on door duty, in direct line of infection, tasked with evaluating every person who came to the door to determine if they had Covid.
When eventually she got Covid in early 2022, it was at the same time as one of her coworkers. This person had a lung scan done, which showed a lot of damage. My relative was frightened that she also had this damage. She was very sick but not hospitalized.

When eventually she got Covid in early 2022, it was at the same time as one of her coworkers. This person had a lung scan done, which showed a lot of damage. My relative was frightened that she also had this damage. She was very sick but not hospitalized.
However, my journal from later that year says it all. Even though this relative was dealing with health issues for months after her infection, I wrote this in December 2022: "I'm watching covid brain in real time, she's been dealing with long covid stuff since april and now suddenly she's like "why are you afraid to get sick?""
It was a complete turnaround. Even with many obvious and serious health problems, even after all the time she risked her job to fight for protections, even after the fear she had from seeing the internal damage in a coworker, Covid got to her brain and told her not to worry.
When we see everyone acting like Covid is gone, this is what I think about. Remember when some people would compare this to Toxoplasmosis, and how that infection causes mice to stop fearing cats by changing something in their brains? I haven't heard as much about this process in Covid lately, and how Covid changes the brain to stop people from fearing it. But with so many people getting infected and re-infected, this has had a profound affect on our society.
This relative of mine is now undergoing weekly blood transfusions. She had a serious occurrence of vein failure which caused a lot of blood loss. I saw this article and was reminded of her. But she will never agree that her issue was due to Covid damage. It has changed her brain too much.
