I enjoyed watching Kathy in quite a few roles, and for years didn't even know her name. She could portray so many types of characters — pure joy.

She will be missed, no doubt about it.

We live in capitalism, its power seems inescapable — but then, so did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art. Very often in our art, the art of words.

That seems low, as I remember a Kernel Version 6.66. There wasn't even a demonic joke anywhere

Latvia’s defence minister says we should not think of Russia as the product of Putin, but rather think of Putin as the product of Russia.

There’s great wisdom in that thought.

"There is no such thing as a perfect democracy," says Yale Prof. Jason Stanley. A healthy democratic society requires competing ideas, and he adds, "If you're not having that struggle, you're in an authoritarian state." #Velshi

Think Donald Trump isn’t really serious about being a dictator? Think again

Trump has always flirted with the idea of autocracy.

But now that flirtation has become a full-on embrace.

He has threatened to weaponize the Justice Department against his political opponents,

gut the civil service system to replace professional federal employees with loyalists,

invoke the Insurrection Act to put down protests,

reinstitute his ban on Muslim immigration

and incarcerate millions of immigrants in detention camps.

If you don’t think he’s serious, you’re in denial.

Emissions from in-house data centers of Google, Microsoft, Meta and Apple may be 💥7.62 times higher than official tally

Big tech has made some big claims about greenhouse gas emissions in recent years.
But as the rise of artificial intelligence creates ever bigger energy demands,
🔸it’s getting hard for the industry to hide the true costs of the data centers powering the tech revolution.
According to a Guardian analysis, from 2020 to 2022 the real emissions from the “in-house” or company-owned data centers of Google, Microsoft, Meta and Apple are likely about 662%
– or 7.62 times
– higher than officially reported.
