In February 1944 she was deported to #Auschwitz and murdered in a gas chamber.

I'm in Australia and we have compulsory voting. I think it does offer a level of protection from extremism. For one thing the parties don't obsess over voter supression and turn out, they just compete over votes. People grumble, but voting is bit like going to a school fete, most of the voting stations are in schools, it takes minutes and you get a sausage sandwich and a cake, and the school raises some money. They even call the sandwiches "democracy sausages."
