Some people who are supporting Harris-Walz have relatives who are Trump supporters. Perhaps the former can ask the latter, "I know we've disagreed, but do you really think I should go to prison for having a different opinion? This is how it would affect me and our family if I went to prison. How would you feel about that?" And see where the conversation goes from there.

What's it called when some crazy nutjob says 1 fucked up piece of BS and it's repeated dozens of times (+1 here) in media?

"Subjecting some of the most vulnerable populations in San Francisco to this dragnet surveillance is a ‘kitchen sink’ approach to public safety that capitalizes on residents’ fear of crime but may be ineffective,” EFF’s Matthew Guariglia told KTVU FOX2. ktvu.com/news/sf-deploys-new-m…

Superb reporting by the San Francisco Chronicle shows how California police officers' misconduct is systematically covered up. This gives bad cops an easy way out of trouble. And it lets them join other departments that hire them without knowing their backgrounds.

The whole system is the bad apple.

just like the Catholic Church with the reassignment of problematic priests. These organizations are worried that publicity around some bad apples is gonna give them a black eye, so they sweep it under the rug or otherwise keep it on the down low; but then the coverup gives the appearance of condoning the bad behavior which makes the organization look even more callous and uncaring toward victims.

Presidential assassination attempts, whether successful or not, are fairly commonplace in American history. In fact, 40% of presidents have experienced known attempts on their lives.

Always with a firearm.
Always by a man (with the exception of Gerald Ford's two attempted assassinations).

"The violence itself shows the worst of society, but Americans often seem at their best in the aftermath," writes a presidency scholar:

In this new piece, The Big Picture's Todd Beeton unpacks how this wild rumor is spreading, the harm it’s causing, and how it fits into Trump’s broader strategy of using disinformation to stoke division. thinkbigpicture.substack.com/p…

I posted a HaHa meme when it first happened. I feel ashamed. I should have seen what was going to happen.

The funny thing is that I live pretty close to Springfield and have heard none of those stories until the day after the debate. I'm a bit sickened by how many chose to believe this without question.
