Though this is about Connecticut, it reflects the same issues for any data centre location. Its also pretty scary that so many Americans "use AI every day". What the hell for?

"I worry that we, the residents of Connecticut, will be left to pay the financial and environmental costs while the state government and large corporations economically benefit from taking part in the latest AI race. As residents of the land that must bear the burden of datacenters in Connecticut, we must stay informed on what the implications of datacenters in our area are and advocate for what benefits our communities."

AI is foisted upon us by Google, Bing and any customer service chats. There is no way around 'using it every day' if you are on the internet these days...
in reply to Ga Schu

@schuga
Therefore it's important to (re)learn how to be on the internet without using Google or Bing, using a computer without W11 (mentioned further down the thread here).
It's encouraging to see younger people (Gen G) rediscover a net without G.

Neo-Nazi march returns to Sweden after 15 years, sparking political outrage: "No one should have to worry," said Sweden’s prime minister Ulf Kristersson euractiv.com/news/neo-nazi-mar…

Hey dear Fedi friends. A quick follow-up on that post about shortage of medication that saves kids suffering from #West_Syndrome. I managed to find a very kind person from Finland who has defended a PhD on drug shortages. We had a video call and he wants to help understand what happened with Synacthene retard and how to get it back to pharmacies. He will help contact the lab that used to produce the drug and also contact other labs across Europe to see which one still manufactures this drug. We have a plan! But we still need a journalist who can make this story known and visible to a bigger audience. Do not hesitate if you know someone who could help us write an article. This case has everything a good story should have: real voices of a marginalized group, first-hand expériences, background corruption schemes, big pharma wicked games and so on. I think we have high chances to win!

Today I received an email inviting me to do an online check-in for an upcoming stay in an AirBnB apartment. The email looked spammy (in terms of formatting and the link I was supposed to click on). But the email had the **name of the place** and the **date of check in** exactly right! It was also sent to the email address I use for AirBnB and addressed me by my first name (with a small capitalisation error, though). (1/2)

I checked with the host and they confirmed it was spam and that I should ignore the message. But I do wonder how the spammers got the detailed information exactly right. Is there an API that people can query for these kind of details? Or does this point to a data leak? Has anyone else seen this? #airbnb #fishing (2/2)

Seen it with bol.com and Vodafone too. My guess is malicious employees or people somewhere in the chain snatching details and abuse them to enrich themselves.

…i had the same with a reservation with booking.com , my impression was that in that specific case the accommodation was probably hacked and leaked the data

Update (this is getting interesting): now I get a second message from the host claiming the confirmation it was spam was sent by an AI agent that didn't have the updated online check-in status data. So... which message to believe? If it is an inside job….

Turkey’s Paribu Acquires VARA-Authorised CoinMENA At $240M Valuation byteseu.com/1606652/ #Turkey

Jeremy Brecher’s newest report, co-published by the Labor Network for Sustainability and Z, addresses the increased #authoritarianism under Trump and the #MAGA movement, with executive overreach, suppression of #dissent, and the use of state and vigilante violence.

Brecher asserts that the country must look beyond conventional means and consider social #strikes — large-scale, nonviolent withdrawal of cooperation, which has brought down authoritarian regimes before.

Rising in a mist
Of silver breath
Softness in the chilly air
And golden sky
And dabs of purple puffs
Of flocks of cloudlings
Lined with rose
And silvery rings
As if the artist
Passing by
Had cast a spell
Of gentle beauty
With her softest sable dabber
Gently
To light my winters way
Beneath this majesty
My kestrel holds the sky aloft
With open welcoming wings
Embracing me
With ethereal light
Even last nights rain
Ripples soft in golden pools
shining back
The rising sun
