i think the reason why this percy jackson series is not hitting me is because they dont let the scenes linger which i think is essential to world building. it's a long series but they move so fast like i want to appreciate the sets the props the creatures and the things that are new to me.

like for example, in the hunger games movies, i feel like I'm seeing everything through katniss' wandering eyes. from her, hunting and going to the shops in district twelve to seeing the capitol for the first time. i kinda need that in this series.

Yikes! It must be rough if you’re comparing a TV show to a movie, I love TV because i find it usually does a better job of story telling, there is more time to do it. Thats unfortunate. I hope they figure it out as the series progresses.

I read the first book, it did move fast, like every chapter was a new big event, there weren’t a lot of chapters of world/character building. Maybe book accurate is part of the problem?

This feels somewhat like a case of that "do you have any idea how little that narrows it down?" meme. 🙂

@mkj
If you like it then you should have put a set that is an abelian group with respect to an addition operator and has a multiplication operator that is associative and distributes over the addition operator on it.

here is my depressing thought of the day (you're welcome!) what if arendt was right that the forces of modernity are converging towards totalitarianism as the global model for how to govern vast numbers of people, and our brief respite was mostly the result of temporary historical memory?

in reply to elias isquith

what if what we thought was an escape from that dialectical path - the postwar era, in other words - was mostly dependent on people's memories of WWII, either personal or handed-down by their parents and grandparents? what if it will take WWIII to get ppl to "learn" what WWII supposedly taught us?
in reply to elias isquith

the precise alignment between "WWII is no longer in living memory" and "hey what if we fascism on a grand scale" is a very unpleasant fact about the present

Testing "tut" a tui for mastodon. Not sure how (and if) this will work out, but giving it a toot anyways. Here we go then... #mastodon #tui #tut #linux

@Rastal Still love #tut, my fastest and most reliable client. Yet you're right, no active development yet at the moment. Let's see for how long it continues to work 🤞

#WordWeavers Day 16 — Is your MC more philosophical or action-oriented?

Tink is more action-oriented, though she PREFER to tinker in a garage somewhere in peace.

Jhana is a mix of both. She won't hesitate to take action if needed.

#WritersCoffeeClub Day16 — Do you have one format you write in, or many?

I write in many poetry styles: haiku, tanka, haibun (prose+haiku), haiga (haiku+art), free verse.

I write short stories and novels. I keep track of worldbuilding with Excel spreadsheets and lately I've been using Ellipsus. Fonts are usually New Times Roman, Helvetica or OpenDyslexic.

I found my first published piece of fiction. I wrote this when I was 11 or 12, and it was published in a collection of stuff written by school kids. This is what happens when you grow up watching Old Yeller and reading Black Beauty.

Good morning.

Knitting, darning socks, and watching some math solving videos. Sadly, solving math problems doesn't always wake me up. I can do "basic math" when I'm groggy.
I need actual proper sleep to wake up and do slightly more complex math. Sleep hygiene can be hard. 😔

Anyways, I love this guy's channels. He answers reddit questions, homework questions from confused parents, SAT and other entrance exam questions, and some silly meme math.
