"The horrors of the past few days were vibrant and searing, and Trump’s subsequent response made it that much worse. But signs of light can be found around so many corners. For example, people across the country are organizing to stop ICE from invading our communities."

Kim Possible reshared this.

in reply to William Lindsey

you know, I never thought about the synchronicity of the Advent candle and the Shamash candle. Both are used to light the others, to share the light, instead of cursing the darkness.
in reply to Kim Possible

@kimlockhartga Yes, it's no accident that festivals of light dominate the religious and cultural lives of cultures globally as the winter solstice nears — ancient cultural-religious rituals, as well as Hanukkah, Christmas, Diwali, the St. Lucia (a name that means light) celebrations in Scandinavia, etc.

@kimlockhartga

yes !!

me and my friend light Hanukkah candles together around the Christmas crib and figurines... and we delight in this sharing of Light and Love 🕎 🎄 ✝️ 💕

I'm doing a ceramics sale at work and it looks like I've sold seven pieces since yesterday.
in reply to Pottery by Osa

@potterybyosa Thank you! This is the first time I've really tried to sell anything, and it's nice to see people are interested.
in reply to Emily Velasco

would love to see some pics if you took some before they sold. Did you sell some of your wild clay pieces?
in reply to Pottery by Osa

@potterybyosa I didn't really have time to make much out of wild clay this semester. I took weeks to process everything I had gathered, and the studio won't let you fire wild clay without doing testing first, so I only ended up with a single piece before the semester ended.

I have a gallery of what's for sale right here if you want to take a peek.

@potterybyosa this is my single wild clay piece from the semester. It slumped quite a bit at mid fire, but I think it has a lot more personality now.

That it didn't completely melt is what really inspired me to get that high-fire clay from Lake Elsinore and start experimenting with blending it into this clay

in reply to Emily Velasco

I didn’t realize you were in school. Are you a ceramics major? Nice batch of pots! I really like J & K.
in reply to Pottery by Osa

@potterybyosa thank you!

No, I work full-time. I just started getting interested in ceramics by firing wild clay things in my barbecue at home, and then I wanted to learn more, so I started looking for somewhere I could take a class.

It turned out that the community college across the street from my office has a really good program for ceramics so I signed up two years ago and I've been taking classes there since then.

in reply to Emily Velasco

@potterybyosa There's some *lovely* pieces on there. I particularly like the whimsy of Lady MacBowl. :-)

the cool thing about selling bulky objects you have made is now you have room to put new ones you will make

Been re-reading Langdon Winner's "The Whale and the Reactor".

Winner published this in 1988 and it still 100% applies. His criticism of "values" discourse, of certain strategies of trying to defend important structures by adopting the language and thinking of the opponent. The focus on numbers while devaluing experience. The hollowness of the decentralization discourse.

Damn.

What are the odds, just read a paper that cites him just a few minutes ago

die Nutzer Gemeinschaft im fediverse ist nun mal nicht die Zielgruppe. Bzw. wenn Wachstum für ein Unternehmen wichtig ist, dann muss man versuchen, Leute aus dem Mainstream zu gewinnen.

A dark, close-up image depicts a large, imposing creature with glowing red eyes and a complex, textured surface. The majority of the image is obscured by darkness, with the focus on the creature’s head and upper body. The creature appears to be made of rough, stone-like material, possibly volcanic rock, and features numerous protrusions and jagged edges. Bright red light emanates from within its eyes and from cracks in its body, creating a striking contrast against the surrounding blackness. Small particles or embers drift in the air, adding to the dramatic, intense atmosphere.

🎇 Happy John Mastodon Day everybody! 🥳

On December 16th, 2022, a journalist confused the Twitter handle joinmastodon (and the webpage joinmastodon.org) with a hypothetical "John Mastodon" ("founder of a competing social media company named after himself") in an article 😉.
