The cops arrested a comrade this week and brought them to the deportation center in Rotterdam. Our friend, a queer anarchist from Iraq, will be deported to Germany, after which Germany will deport them to Turkey or Iraq. Our comrade fears for their life in Iraq.

Tonight we want to show our solidarity and let our comrade and other inmates know thet weren't forgotten. In times of xenofobia and racism, the sideline belongs to the accoplices. Don't bail out on your comrades, come to the demo and take your friends too!

Was geschieht, wenn Programmiersprachen nicht auf Funktionieren und Effizienz, sondern auf Irritation und Reflexion zielen oder wie Poesie wirken? In seiner 2025 bei The MIT Press erschienenen Publikation »Forty-Four Esolangs: The Art of Esoteric Code« versammelt der Künstler Daniel Temkin sogenannte »esoterische Programmiersprachen« – radikale Experimente an den Grenzen dessen, was Code sein kann.

Temkins Esolangs fordern Programmierer dazu auf, Code etwa auf der Basis von Musik, Fotografie oder Skulptur, in Form von Gebeten an die griechischen Götter, auf Grundlage von biologischen, geologischen oder astronomischen Prozessen oder als Muster leerer Ordner zu schreiben. Sie können kollaborativ sein oder poetische Anregungen in der Tradition der Fluxus-Bewegung. Temkin hinterfragt damit herkömmliche Definitionen von Sprache, Code und Computer und zeigt das Potenzial von Esolangs als Ideenkunst auf.

»Forty-Four Esolangs« wirft Fragen zum Verhältnis zwischen Code, menschlicher Kreativität und künstlicher Intelligenz oder zum Nutzen von künstlerischen Programmiersprachen auf. Es lenkt den Fokus auf die Agency, die Materialität, die sozialen Kontexte sowie die politische Dimension von Programmiersprachen.

Daniel Temkin stellt seine 2025 bei The MIT Press erschienene Publikation mit anschließender Diskussion vor.

Daniel Temkin (*1973, Boston) beschäftigt sich mit Fotografie und Computerkunst. 2011 startete er den blog und das Forschungsprojekt »esoteric.codes«, für das er ein Stipendium von ArtsWriters.org von Creative Capital und der Warhol Foundation sowie eine Residency im New Museum erhielt. Temkins publiziert in Zeitschriften wie »Hyperallergic«, »Leonardo« oder »Digital Humanities Quarterly«. Er war Artist-in-Residence bei Pioneer Works, Harvestworks und Signal Culture und stellte unter anderem im Whitney Museum, Museau do Chiado, Haus der elektronischen Künste und dem ZKM aus.

What happens when programming languages aim not at functionality and efficiency, but at irritation and reflection, or act like poetry? In his publication »Forty-Four Esolangs: The Art of Esoteric Code«, published in 2025 by The MIT Press, artist Daniel Temkin brings together so-called esoteric programming languages –radical experiments at the limits of what code can be.

Temkin’s esolangs challenge programmers to write code based on music, photography, or sculpture, in the form of prayers to the Greek gods, based on biological, geological, or astronomical processes, or as patterns of empty folders. They can be collaborative or poetic inspirations in the tradition of the Fluxus movement. Temkin thus questions conventional definitions of language, code, and computers and highlights the potential of esolangs as conceptual art.

»Forty-Four Esolangs« raises questions about the relationship between code, human creativity, and artificial intelligence, as well as the usefulness of artistic programming languages. It focuses on the agency, materiality, social contexts, and political dimension of programming languages.

Ook dit jaar is er weer een anarchistisch jongerenweekend! Het AJW zal plaatsvinden van vrijdag 24 t/m zondag 26 april 2025 op het Anarchistisch Kampeerterrein Appelscha! Wij zijn druk bezig met een programma en de logistiek, en houden jullie op de hoogte als er leuke updates zijn. Wat ons betreft zijn jongeren iedereen tussen en rond de 14 en 27 jaar.

There will be another anarchist youth weekend next year! The AYW will take place from April 24th untill the 26th at the Anarchist Campsite Appelscha! We are busy with a program and logistics, and will keep you informed if there are any nice updates. As far as we are concerned, young people are anyone between and around the ages of 14 and 27.

Wer entscheidet darüber, welche Künstler:innen gesehen werden – und welche kaum Beachtung finden? Soziale Medien spielen dabei eine Rolle, doch die wichtigste und verlässlichste Informationsquelle im Internet ist weiterhin Wikipedia. Hier entsteht Wissen, das weltweit gelesen und genutzt wird.

Beim zweiten Edit-a-thon am ZKM Karlsruhe kannst du selbst mitgestalten. Werde Wikipedia-Autor:in und hilf dabei, Medienkünstler:innen online mehr Sichtbarkeit zu verschaffen.

Worum geht es?

Wikipedia ist für viele Menschen der erste Ort, an dem sie sich über Kunst und Künstler:innen informieren. Ziel des Edit-a-thons ist es, Wikipedia-Artikel zu Medienkünstler:innen aus der Sammlungsausstellung „The Story That Never Ends“ zu schreiben, zu ergänzen oder zu verbessern.

Die Veranstaltung knüpft an das Projekt Medienkunst auf Wikipedia an, in dessen Rahmen bereits zahlreiche Einträge neu erstellt oder erweitert wurden. Auf dieser Grundlage setzen wir die gemeinsame Arbeit fort.

Was erwartet dich?

Der Edit-a-thon bietet dir die Möglichkeit, aktiv an Wikipedia mitzuschreiben und zugleich mehr über den Aufbau der Online-Enzyklopädie zu lernen. Du erhältst eine Einführung in das Schreiben von biografischen Artikeln und Werkbeschreibungen und lernst, wie Wikipedia als Werkzeug für Recherche und Wissensvermittlung genutzt werden kann.

Ablauf

Der Edit-a-thon findet über drei Tage statt. Eine Teilnahme ist auch an einzelnen Tagen möglich. Bei Bedarf können einzelne Programmpunkte in kleineren Gruppen nachgeholt werden (z. B. die Einführung in die Bibliothek).

Freitag, 27. Februar 2026 | 11–17 Uhr| Offener Einstieg und Orientierung

Der Freitag ist als offener Einstiegstag angelegt. Wir treffen uns um 11 Uhr.

Am Vormittag besteht die Möglichkeit, sich anzumelden, Wikipedia-Accounts anzulegen und erste Schritte in der Wikipedia zu machen. Es gibt eine Einführung für Einsteiger:innen sowie Zeit für individuelle Besuche der Ausstellungen. Am Nachmittag treffen wir uns wieder zu einer gemeinsamen Führung durch die Bibliothek.

Programmpunkte:

• Anmeldung, Account-Anlage und erste Schritte in Wikipedia
• Einführung in Wikipedia für Einsteiger:innen
• Besuch der Ausstellungen
• Führung durch die Bibliothek

Samstag, 28. Februar 2026 | 11–17 Uhr | Einführung und gemeinsames Arbeiten (Bibliothek ab 13 Uhr geöffnet)

• Zeit zum Recherchieren, Schreiben und für Ausstellungsbesuche

• Fortsetzung der gemeinsamen Arbeit an den Artikeln

Gäste und Begleitung

Gäste des Edit-a-thons sind Studierende der Universität Münster sowie Prof. Dr. Ursula Frohne (Universität Münster, Kunstgeschichte), Co-Sprecherin der DFG-Kolleg-Forschungsgruppe „Zugang zu kulturellen Gütern im digitalen Wandel“.

Während der gesamten Veranstaltung wirst du von erfahrenen Wikipedia-Autor:innen und Mitarbeiter:innen des ZKM technisch und inhaltlich begleitet.

Teilnahme

Vorkenntnisse sind nicht erforderlich, aber willkommen. Wichtig sind Freude am Recherchieren und Schreiben sowie ein eigener Laptop.

Die Ergebnisse des Edit-a-thons werden auf einer Wikipedia-Dashboard-Seite gesammelt. Alle Mitwirkenden haben zudem die Möglichkeit, auf der Projektseite genannt zu werden.
