Whoever handed it over gave it to diplomatic reporters, not the crime or security desks. The story has been shrinking ever since. By evening the figure was hundreds of thousands of shekels, not tens of millions. The Justice Ministry had known about preliminary suspicions since the end of last week and called them limited. Zini himself had said on election day that the voting was clean. So if he really believed a foreign state was meddling. Why sit on it until the ballots were counted? Because Netanyahu lost.

Israel's election committee chair, Supreme Court Justice Noam Solberg, has asked the Shin Bet to investigate claims that millions of shekels from "enemy states" were used to buy votes in Arab communities.
Oh, by the way, only 13 days before the vote he visited the committee's logistics center and said he was convinced of the "purity of the elections" and that "stealing elections is impossible."
Police say they've found no sign of fraud. Likud still insists Arab parties stole the vote.
Solberg's record is on the right. He lives in the Alon Shvut settlement in Gush Etzion. Critics say that makes his decision to bring the Shin Bet into an election dispute political, not neutral.
