Paul M. Barrett: ‘We Want You To Be A Proud Boy’ How Social Media Facilitates Political Intimidation and Violence
"With a volatile election approaching, our new report reviews hundreds of social science studies on the question of the role social media plays in facilitating political intimidation and violence.
Our main finding is that the research consistently shows that social media is exploited to facilitate political intimidation and violence. What’s more, certain features of social media platforms make them particularly susceptible to such exploitation, and some of those features can be changed to reduce the danger."

I would really like to get an e-ink reader which is open source / not tied to a specific ebook service.
That said, I own a Kindle.
THIS pine64.com/product/pinenote-de… looks fantastic, but it’s a developer device. I know my skillset limitations, and hacking linux drivers on relatively uncommon hardware is not a thing I currently know how to do, nor do I want to make the time investment in learning it. I just want an e-ink reader that works out of the box.
Anyone know of alternatives which are consumer ready and under $200?

📢 After moving to AGPL for Synapse, we’re now finalising licence changes for related projects. We’re also switching the apps to (A)GPL.
The intention is to ensure system integrators and other proprietary forks of our software support its dev.

@TheEvilSkeleton So we're not remotely trying to out people's legal names. There's more context at element-hq.github.io/synapse/l… but it boils down to:
> We accept contributions under a legally identifiable name, such as your name on government documentation or common-law names (names claimed by legitimate usage or repute). Unfortunately, we cannot accept anonymous contributions at this time.
If that doesn't work, let us know.

The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) says world leaders pressured him not to apply for arrest warrants for the Israeli prime minister and defense minister on allegations of war crimes in Gaza.
Karim Khan told the BBC, “Several leaders and others told me and advised me and cautioned me,” he said.
The state of Israel faces separate genocide charges at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Good news: After getting off to a late start in the energy transition, Poland is making up for lost time.
Over the first 7 months of 2024, renewables comprised 30.2% of electricity - nearly double the levels seen just three years ago.
