in reply to Jeff Jarvis

And the reason for the ruling? "[The ballot measure] could affect state laws that ban minors from getting gender-affirming health care, and prohibit human cloning."

Which is so absurd absolutely expected given the current GOP playbook.

"Donald Trump and J.D. Vance have made it abundantly clear that they think Kamala Harris is dumb. But apparently they think that women voters are even dumber.

Never mind that Harris is a law school graduate who was later elected San Francisco district attorney, California attorney general, U.S. senator, and vice president of the United States."

@itty53 Yes, I found that detail astonishing, so absurd that it's hard to imagine what kind of fools would engage in such silly behavior.

@crispius @LaNaehForaday It's hard for me to imagine him doing anything other than trying to sit Mrs. Vance down and mansplain to her, over and over again.

#Oklahoma revoked the teaching certificate of Summer Boismier because she set up a classroom display of #BannedBooks and gave her students a link to the #BrooklynPublicLibrary service providing free online access to banned books.

From Boismier: "I've never had a teaching certificate revoked…, let alone revoked for informing [high school students] that #libraries exist online too."

The covert Russian influence campaign code-named “Doppelgänger” is a vast scandal, the dimensions of which are only beginning to be revealed. Paid propagandists, witting and unwitting, include “television and radio hosts, politicians, bloggers, journalists, businessmen, professors, think-tank analysts, veterans, professors, and comedians.” (Hello, Tucker Carlson.)

Continuing on the fact that computers are harder than we sometimes think: (mastodon.pirateparty.be/@Black…)

The general Linux community is doing pretty good in that regard. You can setup a machine where the enduser is relatively good protected from shooting themselves in the foot. Tanks to transactional updates with the possibility to roll back and thanks to efforts like Flatpaks, Snaps, Appimages, ...

Even if those tools are not perfect they make Linux a lot easier and accessible for people who just want to get things done, without an interest in how computers work. So for all that make this happen, thank you 🙏

WHAT efficiency? Measured how? Who's measuring? Who's knowledgeable/influential about the domain or helicopter view? Withdrawal of efficiency BY [or FROM] a competent worker? How should efficiency gains be divided/spent? By whom? In what currency? Money/time/CO2/.. ?
Sorry, the above might be (considered) a bit off-topic here, but perhaps en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jevons_p… should influence thinking more.
