I got my loops.video account activated today
So far, there is only some user settings accessible in the web interface. I don't have an iPhone, hence I cannot say for their app. The android app will come later, apparently.
I really wonder if this is just a different frontend for pixelfed that is video-centric, or if it will be something else.
Since it is supposed to be the TikTok of the fediverse, I really wonder if it will, like pixelfed also just feature a chronological timeline? Because what makes TikTok so popular is not the short videos, but the recommendation algorithm that doesn't even require people to follow any accounts.
If it's just another chronological media feed then they could have just modified pixelfed to only allow video upload and would jabe archived the same thing. So far I am really wondering if loops is a new thing, or if it will be just another reskin of mastodon/pixelfed/...

I wrote a piece about how we learn racism. It’s complicated. But if we acknowledge it instead of running, we can unlearn and do better.
“Most white people struggle with the idea that systemic racism even exists, or that we are personally responsible for fueling it. It stings when you consciously see yourself as an ally, and then find yourself labeled an oppressor. It’s highly uncomfortable. So people avoid it.”

Any physicists around who can help me understand something?
How should I picture neutrinos in a QFT context? If particles are ripples in their field, and we can detect only a teeny-tiny fraction of neutrinos, what does that say about their field? Is it somehow quiet, and only ripples when we make a chance detection of a neutrino? Is it constantly rippling, but so noisily we can hardly ever detect a signal in it?
Or have I got this all wrong?
(Boosts OK, of course.)
@grork “We’re gonna be like a startup” is just rationalization for layoffs.
Oh, you’re gonna be lean like a startup eh? Will the workers be getting significant equity in addition to their pay too, or just more work? Cause startup workers get equity.

If someone sends me a random YouTube link, I open it in the web. On the off chance someone sends me a random TikTok link, web only.
Again I don't use any of these apps, but if someone sends me a loops link and it says install the app, I'll just ignore it.

Loops is currently a one man operation and I imagine TOS was the last thing they were worried about.
