Hello, #SFBA!
After careful consideration, we have decided to limit our federation with Threads.net. This means that, while existing connections to Threads accounts will remain in place, most Threads content will no longer appear on SFBA.social. We have more details on the information hub.

We look forward to hearing from you, and welcome your input. Thank you for being awesome, and happy posting.

Here's a good tip from the City of Pasadena for the #EatonFire

"Additionally, an update from the City of Pasadena - Public Agency : "Stop Using Leaf Blowers. The use of leaf blowers contributes in the spreading of toxic ash and other chemicals from burned structures and debris from the Eaton Fire."

(Watch duty lists facebook.com/share/p/15pM6Ju6z… as the source, link, but I don't want to log in to check)

Bet that tip applies to the rest of the #LosAngelesFires and other urban fire zones.

Quantum Leap: Google Claims Its New Quantum Computer Provides Evidence That We Live in a Multiverse jdsupra.com/legalnews/quantum-…
enter image description here
In the history of technological revolutions, there are moments that challenge not only our understanding of what is possible but the very nature of reality itself. Google’s latest refinement to its quantum computer, Willow, may represent such a moment. By achieving computational feats once thought to be confined to science fiction, it forces us to confront bizarre new theories about the fabric of the universe. Could this machine, built from the smallest known building blocks of matter, actually provide evidence that parallel universes exist as some at Google claim? The implications are as profound as they are unsettling.

Which part of returning to their roots of free speech requires offering trans and nonbinary users fewer options on messenger themes?

RE: bsky.app/profile/did:plc:cjfcz…

New: Meta has deleted trans and nonbinary Messenger themes, as well as the blog posts announcing them. Happens the same week that it has changed its rules to allow users to say LGBTQ+ people are "mentally ill" www.404media.co/meta-deletes...

Very nice of them to finally speak out after the last person who could be prosecuted is long dead.

#Mastodon has an interface closer to that of Twitter in 2009. If you prefer an FB-like experience, you may like to join a #Friendica server (which can still connect to the fediverse like Mastodon but behaves more like FB)?

Our remote office has burnt down. All team members are safe. Almost all records safe. My heart goes out to those who’ve lost their homes. The weather is as warm as summer, except for smoke and hurricane-force Santa Ana winds. This is our future.

We're working with the Osage on Long Knife. The film will focus on the Koch’s exploitation of Osage lands, and the planet-frying methane pouring from them because of poorly maintained wells. So, our work continues.

Bless you all for your concern.

A Social History of Italian Fascism: The Italians Under Mussolini’s Regime by Patrizia Dogliani

This book uncovers how fascism reshaped Italian society according to its ideological and historical interpretation of the Italian nation and people and identifies the strengths of this transformation, but also the resistance encountered from, for example, women and minority groups, to accept it in everyday life.

Learning for the first time tonite about #Friendica - it originally sounded like a misremembering of #Friendster, the 2003 #SocialMedia precursor to #Myspace, which, as an #InternetElder, forms part of my long lived experience online. Having been so happy with my #Mastodon & now my #Bluesky experience, it's cool to see the #Fediverse also has an option for both (AND #Tumblr & #WordPress) to be supported within Friendica. I'm not scared of the install either, so this might be a fun option for me.

I'm Aussie. Gina is an absolutely repugnant excuse for a human and I usually refer to her as Gina the Hutt.

In 2012 she was bitching and whining about not being able to pay her Australian mine workers $2/day like West African mine workers (they work 12 hour days, 1 week on + 1 week off).

But she also talks about her need for the most skilled and intelligent workers so they won't damage her precious mining equipment.

She is boring, stupid, useless and out of touch with reality.

@JosetAEtzel I teach an undergraduate course in mathematical modeling for biologists that uses python, and for that class I use plotly. I’m pretty happy with it for this use case. The students are new to both coding and modeling, so teaching matplotlib on top of everything else would just be too much. Plotly, and plotly.express in particular, is much easier to understand, and it’s much easier to create a nearly complete graph in a single line than matplotlib.
