One of the rather wonderful caryatids above one of the George Square entrances to Merchants' House in Glasgow. It was scupted by James Young and was created in the 1870s. The coat of arms at her base is that of the City of Glasgow.

I’m happy in my little Mastodon world, and have no interest in engaging in anything Meta, Musk, or platforms setting up to go that way (i.e BlueSky). I know I miss out on cycling goings on as a result of this and do struggle with that at times: principles over pragmatism?

Ground-based image of Arp 16, also known as M66.

M66 is a member of the Leo Triplet. NGC 3628, the galaxy in the upper left, likely had an encounter with M66 a few hundred million years ago, creating a dramatic tail-like plume.
Gravitational interactions between the three galaxies may also be responsible for M66’s distorted shape and prominent spiral arms.

A fully sampled and hitherto highest resolution and sensitivity observation of neutral hydrogen (H I) in the Leo Triplet (NGC 3628, M 65/NGC 3623, and M 66/NGC 3627) reveals six H I structures beyond the three galaxies.

Trump has said he cannot rule out such tactics to accomplish his territorial ambitions. Two-thirds oppose making Canada the 51st state, an idea that set off tensions between the two countries. Half say it is a bad idea for Elon Musk, the Tesla CEO advising Trump on federal spending cuts and other matters, to serve as an adviser, while 39% say it is a good idea. By a margin of 64% to 31%, voters oppose ending birthright citizenship—the constitutional provision that someone born in the U.S. is a citizen, which Trump has promised to try to eliminate. Voters place a high priority on protecting funding for education, healthcare and social safety-net programs—a caution for Trump and his advisers, Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, who are leading an effort to identify large spending cuts. By about 60% to 34%, voters say protecting those programs is more important than cutting taxes or reducing the federal debt. Support is essentially split over another signature Trump plan—placing tariffs on imported goods—with 48% of voters in support and 46% opposed. At the same time, 68% also say that tariffs would make the products they buy more expensive.

It's not as if Trump has to keep any of his promises or has to convince anyone that what he does is right.
If you want Polls look at the exit polls, or when people are about to Vote.
These results are inconsistent but they also do not matter right now.

@small circle 🕊 in calmness I remember hearing about a black man who purposefully approached people in the KKK and other hate groups, and sat down and had conversations with them. Through their discussions, most of them saw that their previous world view was mistaken and toxic, and decided to break from their racist organizations and even renounce them. People can change. That does not mean they will, but they certainly are capable of it.

@scott I've seen a Louis Theroux episode where he interviewed a KKK leader who was best pals with his black neighbor, and they were cracking jokes and drinking beer together. They were sort of both asked the question "why are you friends since that is so opposed to you ideology?" .. and the response was kinda like "Duh? We are *neighbors*, don't you see?". They knew each other deeply and saw humans again. A sort of an eye-opener how environment impacts things and how we might improve on that.
